Do you watch "Roots" with all the whippings, branding and screams?

Asked by Aster (20023points) May 31st, 2016

My s/o starts watching Roots when he gets up . I like quiet mornings but he must be enjoying it. I don’t like movies that have constant whippings and loud screams. The movie, “Giant” didn’t have any of this going on. Do you watch the new Roots? Are they overdoing the violence to get viewers thinking that a quiet movie wouldn’t interest people?

I personally find it very hard to stomach movies where there is torture and suffering.

The point of re-making “Roots” is due to facts that have been uncovered since the the last miniseries, as well as the book. It also has to do with the fact that the younger generations of US citizens are unaware of their country’s history of slavery and how it still impacts the US culture.

I saw the original airing of “Roots” years ago. I thought it was hard to watch parts of it and watched it because I thought it was in a rather documentary format. In that is reflected our history. I do not need to see it again. Perhaps later generations do. I don’t know. I think all need to be aware of this history. Just as I think people need to know that the “Holocaust” happened.

When I left the dog park today I noticed a tiny green worm on the back of my hand after I had entered the car.

I opened the window and gently shook the worm off.
