Anyone substituting honey for sugar these days?

Asked by MooCows (3216points) July 3rd, 2016

Of course we sell at 3 farmer’s markets a week
and I know who has the best honey and began
using it and raw goat’s milk in my coffee and
it is divine! Anyone else using honey instead
of the white powder sugar?

I drink my coffee black.

Me, me! I almost never use white sugar anymore. I’m using honey in my oatmeal and hot tea. I just wish it were cheaper.

@Pachy – You’re so right about the price.

I recently finished a giant tub I brought back when we emptied my parents’ house about five years ago. Had to buy honey – just about fainted at the cost of it now.

I like it in my tea and I still like an old-school peanut butter, honey and banana sandwich once in a while.

Beware: Honey is one of the most commonly counterfeited foods.

I don’t really like the taste of honey. In my coffee, I’ll use artificial sweetener. I know it’s not the best for you.

@jca—thanks for the tip. And I agree about not liking it in coffee. I prefer a flavored non-dairy creamer over artificial sweetener.

I quite like it in fruit tea and on porridge but that’s as fast as it goes.

Always in my hot teas, sometimes in my coffee, always on cream of wheat, oatmeal, granola and when I do pastries. But I prefer sugar in my coffee which is very strong. (I use goat milk quite often, too). I have to use way too much honey or sugar to sweeten ice tea, either Lipton or, more often, Roselle berry. The only thing that sweetens ice tea properly is artificial sweetener.

Honey prices are high down here as well, but the honey is local and real. I have a colony of little melipona stingless bees to give honey and pollinate my vanilla plants. Meliponas are against the law in the States.

@jca is absolutely right, a lot of honey in the States is counterfeit from China. There are articles galore about this from good sources all over the net.

I have cut out white sugar completely except for the sugar water I put out for the hummingbirds. Just bought a real maple syrup blended with honey. Can’t wait to taste test it on some French Toast!

I love honey.

I am drinking my tea with coffee these days, honey is better than sugar, honey is the pure form and good for healt too.

Maple syrup… better….

@Cruiser :: While it is lovely you feed the hummingbirds I do wonder why you eat them.

Cruiser's avatar

@johnpowell When I apply the rule of a lot of empty Pabst cans…I can much better appreciate your comment

Dutchess_III's avatar

…Pabst? Have you lost your mind, @Cruiser?

@rd21 Honey is bee poop. Just sayin’... ;)

Cruiser's avatar

@Dutchess_III Not me….JP…is is the sole reason Pabst is still in business. Think of it in those tems and his answers almost make sense

@johnpowell I don’t eat humming birds but when I am done using them as a dental pick
I do let them go.
