Does anyone worry that Obama will use martial law and NOT step down from the Presidency?

Asked by MooCows (3216points) July 28th, 2016

Of course it is all over social media that the President
will not step down if Trump wins the nomination.
Then all hell breaks loose and I can almost just
see him refusing to step down. Anyone loosing
any sleep over this?

Awright..step away from the FOX News and no one will get hurt.

Trump already won the nomination.

Stop reading the right wing whackos. They thought Obama would take over Texas last summer, and they have been saying Obama would take away your guns for the last seven years.

No, it never entered my mind. And I’m not so sure him declaring martial law would do it. It did cross my mind that the day he leaves the White House for the last time, it will be one difficult day.
And the notion is “all over social media?” Why haven’t I heard about it then?

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

Somebody starts that rumor for every lame duck president. Easily ignored.

Though I’d be happy for four more years.

Ridiculous. You might as well worry that if Trump is elected, he’ll team up with the Russians to get himself anointed as the first American dictator…oh, wait…

johnpowell's avatar

Is it wrong that I want him to make this conspiracy theory a reality?

jca's avatar

It’s a crazy notion and the first time I heard it was just now, here. I’m on FB and have never heard this before.

This is some ridiculous shit.

Dutchess_III's avatar

“Worry”? Hell no. I would love it if he could do just that.

SmartAZ's avatar

Yawn. They worried about the same thing when Washington’s term ended.

rojo's avatar

Not a concern. Just another conservative fear mongering conspiracy theory.

Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid.

stanleybmanly's avatar

No. Were Trump to win, Obama would graciously hand Trump the keys, and laugh his ass off at the colossal joke the voters played on themselves..

rojo's avatar

@stanleybmanly Yeah, all the way to Canada. His Presidential library would be in Ontario.

janbb's avatar

Um – no.

dappled_leaves's avatar

Haha! No. This may be a sign that your social media ‘friends’ are crazy people.

filmfann's avatar

Impossible.
Can’t happen.
Won’t happen.

but I’m all for it if Trump wins.

Saw a meme a few days ago with Obama saying that the Republicans said he was going to confiscate all the guns in 2008…........2009…..and 2010…....and 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 and now they are saying Hillary will do it in 2017 and asking when they are going to realize it is just a marketing tool to sell guns.

Kinda feel the same way about this.

What social media? This is the first I’ve heard of it. I already have insomnia, so no, I won’t be losing any sleep over this idea. Sounds pretty whacked to me.

Lightlyseared's avatar

The first time I saw this theory it was on Douglas Adams blog (of Dilbert fame). it’s an amusing idea but unlikely to happen.

MrGrimm888's avatar

Thought I’ve heard it all. But that’s new.
I’ve heard he’s gonna take everyone’s guns and put them in death camps more frequently than most. Some seem to genuinely believe it.

Such theories stupid. But they make more sense than the religion of most of those who worry about this. The sheep are mind numbingly easily led.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

@MooCows What social media sites are you referring to specifically?

flutherother's avatar

Trump has already won the nomination and it troubles me a little that he may win the election as I believe he will be an incompetent, divisive and dangerous president. I liked Obama, who was everything Trump is not, but we all know his days as president are now numbered.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

I remember the left wing conspiracy nuts saying the same thing about Bush when Obama won the nomination.

chyna's avatar

No. His family wants their life back.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Obama is going to walk away from this a wealthy man with a secure future regardless of whatever stupidity or jackass replaces him. He has no incentive for a coup. Like anyone with sense, he recognizes the potential for absolute catastrophe. But as a Constitutional scholar of considerable merit, there is no way in hell that he will endorse or participate in the first and only coup in the history of the country.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@stanleybmanly Obama was already a wealthy man when he took office.

Buttonstc's avatar

I can think of a lot of more productive possibilities to worry about.

This one isn’t even on the list. Right wing fear mongering.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

I would be a coup. Possible but not likely. Like what happened in Turkey last week.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

I can’t help but think that most presidents that make it through 8 years think to themselves “God, glad that shit is over”

Dutchess_III's avatar

I know I will be relieved for Michelle and the girls, too.

AlaskaTundrea's avatar

No, not at all. My instinct tells me that the Obamas are more than ready to be out of the spotlight, not that it’ll ever leave them completely alone.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

You guys USA politics makes ours (Canada) look like Mary freaking Poppins, and I thought our politicians were nuts .

rojo's avatar

Hey watch it @SQUEEKY2 ! Our politicians reflect the attitudes and beliefs of their constituency which is (or is supposed to be anyway) us.

Dutchess_III's avatar

A bunch of us appear to be nuts @rojo. I can’t help but think that Trump running was a practical joke gone horribly wrong. (Someone else said that, and I agree.)
