Can I renew my daughters car tags for her so she won't have to take off of work?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46806points) August 15th, 2016

The tags will be replacing her 90 day tag. She isn’t set up for online renewal. Can I just go and get that done? She doesn’t have to points to take off of work, and only 1 vacation day left until October.

I would call and ask. It depends on the state.

Here I had to have a PIN from my previous registration. In Michigan I just went to the web site and ordered tags for my mom.

Depends on your state. In Texas, this can be done by mail. Not sure if a parent can do it for a child—I too would call the bureau.

I will. Thanks guys.

In Illinois all you need to do is give the plate number, then they’ll ask for the name.

It’s a 90 day tag. She just refinanced it on her own, getting her ex’s name off the loan and the title.
OK, about 10 years ago their father finally gave them some bonds that he’d taken out for them when they were born. Well, when she went to get her new tags, they told her she owed “property tax” on those bonds. It just doesn’t make sense to me (Property tax?) But, she can’t get her tags until she pays that $140 in property tax. So now she’s been pushed back, and can’t take any more time off of work to get it all straightened out and come up with the extra money….and the tags will expire day after tomorrow.

I’d start here.

I actually googled it before I posted this but I decided would be a lot easier to just call the court house @CWOTUS! There are too many variables in this particular situation than a simple renewal.
But the problem is resolved. She took her last day of vacation today to get it all done. We had a nice visit this morning. Also, the guy misspoke when he said the “property tax” was $140. It was only $40, so I didn’t go completely broke.
