General Question

Why do I keep getting this message when attempting to go to certain websites and is there a work around? (see details)

Asked by Buttonstc (27605points) August 18th, 2016

Usually this has been occurring on fairly little known websites but now it’s a major dept. store, Stein Mart

This only occurs on my iPad but not on my Android phone.

It says: Safari could not open the page because the server cannot be found.

How obscure could this server possibly be since its for a well known stores online shopping site?

Is anyone else with an iPad or iPhone experiencing this?

What’s going on here?

My hunch is a problem with mDNSResponder on the iPad. I would try holding down and pressing the sleep button until it asks you to power off the device. Then wait for it to reboot.

If the problem persists after that let me know.

And the site works totally fine on my iPad and iPhone.

It usually comes up for me on an Apple device when the wi-fi connection was lost. Check settings or restart.

Apparently this is how to fix it. It also explains the error.
Yes, I get this error too occasionally.

Happens to me all the time. At least a few times a week.
