How many episodes do you binge-watch at a time?

Asked by PriceisRightx26 (1258points) August 26th, 2016

I remember reading an article a few months ago about a survey suggesting that the average time spent binge-watching TV is 2 hours. Honestly, I can’t really agree that that is even considered “binging.” When you’re really into a show, how many episodes will you watch in one day? What do you think is the most number of episodes you’ve watched in a day?

No judgment here. Sometimes when I’m stuck at home doing work, I can blow through 6 episodes of a show in one day.

The most I have done in one day is 3. My usual is 2. However I do this most nights of the week. So if I watch say 10 episodes of a show in a week, to me that is binge watching. Considering in the “old days” you could only see one episode of a show a week.

@anniereborn That’s a good point that I didn’t consider. I don’t actually watch all that often, so I can see how the average time drops down.

Two or three episodes. Mostly it would only be a couple. I don’t have time to watch TV for longer than that at a time. I can’t remember the last time I had a whole day to blow focusing on TV.

I watched the first season of “Orange Is the New Black” in 3 days. But my record is pigging out on the first 7 episodes of “Roadies” in one! It’s my newest favorite series and I heartily recommend it.

I’ve watched all 15 seasons of ER in the last three months.

@Seek: What platform did you watch them on? My daughter’s looking to watch ER next.

I watch 2 to 3 episodes in a sitting. I’m currently binging The Americans on Amazon Prime. Just finished Season 2.
Hoping to get Season 3 done before I start teaching again in a week.

My next binge target will be Marvel’s Luke Cage on Netflix at the end of September.

I think four. Three is best I think. After three it’s too much.

@cookieman – They’re shamelessly pirated and hosted on Plex, watched through my Roku box. ER is a time-sink. 22, 23 episodes per season for 15 years. It was my favourite summer vacation TV show when I was growing up, so I’d seen most of it already. I kind of just kept it running in the background all day while I was cleaning or crocheting or playing with the dog or whatever.

Usually 4 hours. I have been watching The Walking Dead recently, and that’s my normal amount of binge on that.
I also have been watching Stranger Things, but because there are only 10 episodes currently available, I only watch 3 at a time.
That said, I should mention that I watched season 4 of Game of Thrones in one sitting.

Usually 3 or so episodes but I did, once, on a cold, stormy day, watch like 8–9 hours worth of the old “Dexter” series. haha I tend to go on jags with a particular show like “Chopped” or a new one I found, ” In an instant”, crazy survival stories.

The most I have done in a day is three; occasionally, I’ll watch two episodes and consider it a binge.

@Seek That’s how I do it, also. I mostly just let episodes run on days when I know I’m going to be home for a while (stitching, knitting, ceramic projects, grooming the rabbit, grooming myself, etc).

@filmfann My friend and I once binged an entire season in one day as well, and oh man does it hurt, lol. I also ration out my Netflix Originals. I binged the first season of Peaky Blinders, and when I realized I was in love with the show, I started watching one episode every once in a while. must savor it.

I watched all 158 episodes of Magnum P I at a rate of about 5 or more a day. It took about a month.

It depends on the show, but generally around 3 at a time. Although there are a few shows in which I have watched about 10 or 12 at a time.

Want to know what shows they were? Gran Hotel and Murdoch Mysteries and Dance Academy. These three in particular had me on the edge of my seat, begging for more, even though each of these series is very different from each other.

filmfann's avatar

Correction: Stranger Things only currently has 8 episodes. I sat down to watch a couple yesterday, and found only one left.

PriceisRightx26's avatar

@Kardamom I’ve never heard of any of these! Where did you watch them?

@PriceisRightx26 They’re all on Netflix. I think Murdoch Mysteries is also on Amazon Prime.
