What do you do when you are thoroughly exhausted?

Asked by Cruiser (40449points) September 3rd, 2016

It’s late afternoon and you are wiped out and you have to get ready for a full on evening of whatever…what is your go to secret weapon to push through that wall of exhaustion?

I eat meat. like KFC or Chinese food.

I take a caffeine pill. I don’t drink coffee.

Take a nap.

janbb's avatar

I usually get into bed and read for a bit. Sometimes this lets me doze off for about twenty minutes; the optimal time for me for rejuvenation.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

I also meditate and stare at my psyduck.

If I was that exhausted I’d cancel my evening plans. haha
I’m not a napper, I just stay groggy for the rest of the day, so, if I had to go somewhere in the evening I would just relax, have a cool, rejuvenating shower, drink a diet soda or maybe a cup of coffee and then, only stay the bare minimum amount of time before begging off.

I nap, even if it is only 20 or 25 minutes. Then, a cup of coffee, or better, a triple latte.

If there is time for a nap I’ll go for it.
Otherwise I pop a 3 or 4 (or 5) of these: Jolt Mints.

I down a 5 Hour Energy. It doesn’t make me jittery, I just feel normal again.

I try to find some time for a power nap or just some meditation time to close my eyes and stay quiet for a while. Either can help me regenerate.

I’m an extrovert so I also find that even if I’m tired, once I’m around people I’m energised.

If there is time—I take a nap. I hate risking getting sick, because I’m exhausted. I haven’t had to do that in a long time. Thank goodness. It’s not a guarantee I’ll get sick, but there is the risk. I will do my best to make sure I sleep enough. It is a priority. Doesn’t always turn out how I want it though.

If I have no time to nap I would drink a little caffeine (I’m usually caffeine free). If I have to drive is possibly call a friend or sing along with some music. I hate to drive when I can feel my eyes closing. I don’t do it as a rule. I really have a very difficult time staying up if my body needs to sleep.

Why are you feeling so exhausted @Cruiser?

anniereborn's avatar

Listen to uplifting music if I don’t have time to nap. If i am totally exhausted and can cancel my plans, I will.

ucme's avatar

I ain’t got time for exhaustion & besides, I got way too much energy to get in that state
If i’m feeling a little tired I get our butler to gather the house staff in the games room dressed in velcro suits where they become targets as I toss tennis balls at them.
Within no time i’m feeling wide awake, refreshed & ready to face the evening with renewed vigour.

@Earthbound_Misfit Friday Got up early and I drove my son and all his belongings off to college. We unloaded all his gear in the summer heat…he insisted we then visit my cousin who lives 30 minutes away which meant more driving. There we went for a pontoon boat ride to a restaurant for dinner. By the time we left it was dark and drove the 3 hours back to our cabin. Long day for sure.

When I’m home I’m in casual comfortable clothes. I’d get into bed for as long as possible. I give myself a time that I must be up so I can get ready for whatever is the next activity. At the appointed time, I force myself to get up. If I’m really tired, the “getting ready for the next activity” time gets lessened, or I’ll push back the next activity time if possible.

I take a nice warm bath, soaking the muscles and taking my time.
Then after a refreshing bath, and full stomach, take out my pad and paer and work on writing ideas and possibilities.( I have several writing projects on the go and return to each after a break from writing and that is when I get more ideas).
I sometimes listen to inspiring music tht has no words to distract, but rather instrumentals taht take ones mind further into “what If” episodes and feel gratitude for my safety and security as there are so many who cannot have a day like this in their lives. I am thankful for that realization that I can have such a moment,as it is a gift.

canidmajor's avatar

Wow, @Inspired_2write, how do you find time for all that before you “get ready for a full on evening…”?

Inspired_2write's avatar

@canidmajor
I am retired and doing whatever and whenever I want. That is wahat retirement is.
I am enjoying doing things that I never had time for in the past.

canidmajor's avatar

Yeah, me too, I get the retirement thing. I was referring to @Cruiser‘s details to the question, I thought you were addressing that.

Inspired_2write's avatar

@canidmajor
Oh sorry, yes I do the same..have a fast bath, relax and then get ready.

Cruiser's avatar

@LuckyGuy Jolt Breath mints??? Are these made by the same company that brought us the nectar of the Gods Jolt Cola? “All the sugar and twice the caffeine??”

MollyMcGuire's avatar

Go to bed. I don’t know why everyone does all of these other things. Hungry, eat. Tired, sleep.

JLeslie's avatar

^^Right on!

jca's avatar

@MollyMcGuire: He was asking about how you replenish your energy when you’e exhausted and have to go out in the evening. If that’s the case, going to bed really wouldn’t be too practical, except to take a short nap.

I just read @Inspired_2write answer and those are many of the ways I find I can unwind from a long tour of work/stress/lack of sleep. Sometimes it pays to throw in the towel and say enough is enough and fill up the tub and grab a book and read until I am dozing off.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

I ask a doctor for a sick note. Then relax .
