Have you ever Googled people that you know?

If so, have you been surprised at what you’ve found?

No, and I’m sure the results will just display their Facebook page or get confused with someone famous.

I’m more concerned about my friends Googling this username. I have an email address with the exactly same name as this one – the oldest mail address currently and strictly used for real life business. One friend has associated this name with me and even saves this name as my phone number. I don’t know what would happen if one day she google this name and found out all about my participation here.

I’m a skilled internet stalker. I’ve considered getting certified as a private investigator. My skills have been honed over 15 years of searching for my father online. Unfortunately it’s really hard to find an ex-cop. They tend to disappear when they want to.

And yes, I was surprised to find my former best friend from junior high was arrested for molesting the kid she was babysitting. And that my stepbrother murdered someone and got away with it, and that he kidnapped and raped someone and got away with a slap on the wrist. And that my former pastor was arrested for using dead parishoners’ identities to scam a multi-level marketing scheme.

Sure. I’ve never discovered anything as dramatic as @Seek‘s experience.

I’ve not experienced what @Seek has but a friend’s son has been acting up so I googled him (he’s in his early twenties) and found that both parents have been arrested. Mom for workmen’s comp fraud and dad for DWI.

I also googled someone I know from the internet because she’s not been posting about work she’s been certified for so I was curious to see if she still is in that profession. I found out she was arrested along with her husband for domestic violence. The article mentioned drinking, which I suspected, based upon her behavior online.

Whenever I google someones name I usually just get a Facebook link which might or might not be them.
Other times I get an address and a phone number again which might or might not be them.

When I google my own name it comes as a big black guy that plays football for the Alabama raiders.
Not bad for a white middle age over weight Canadian truck driver.

@SQUEEKY2: You need to put in name and town or other identifying information (place of work or something) to get a more specific result.

It should be standard practice for any employer looking to hire someone.

Sure, for professional reasons, I do it all the time.

@Seek It sounds like you know Florida Man!

@dappled_leaves Florida Man is my neighbor. And my other neighbor. And the guy at the grocery store. And most of the people I know.

I think the closest thing to an actual Florida Man story that I’ve been within one degree of separation from was an acquaintance being arrested for trying to cook meth in a Walmart bathroom.

@Seek Wow. “This week, in a new, hilarious episode of Breaking Bad…”

Never have, if I wanted to know something of them I am decent enough to ask them to their face instead of sneak behind their back.

Yes but didn’t find anything too shocking.
