Was South Africa and the UK right to ban Paster Steven Anderson?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) September 14th, 2016

For those who don’t know Anderson is an anti gay and misogynist Christian fanatic. He has the view point that women should not have employment but rather be housewives and nothing more. He also praised the the Orlando shooting and has called for the death of all homosexuals.

Well South Africa and the UK have banned him from entering their nations. What are your thoughts on this. Many of Anderson’s followers see it as a restriction of freedom of speech. Others see it as a just consequence to dealing with a crazed bigot and hate speech.

Which makes him an ISIS supporter. Why has he not been droned yet?

Maybe they have reached their quota of ignorant fuckheads.

When people tell me that Islam is a religion of peace, and that Isis is a vile abomination of the faith, I think of this pigfucker, and how he is a vile abomination of Christianity.

As far as I know neither of those countries have a constitutionally enshrined right to free speech. Even if they do that does not mean that they have to allow non-citizens in to say whatever the hell they want. If it were a British imam calling for the death of Americans you can bet your ass that he would not be allowed entry into the United States.

I don’t see any problem with it.

He has the right to say whatever he wants. SA and UK, and every other country have the right to ban entry to their countries to whomever they want too. If you don’t like someone, you have the full right not to invite them to your house.

And at this day and age, any attempt to deal with crazy apes is seen as “restricting the freedom of speech”. It starts to sound like a buzzword.

@Sneki95 You make a very good point there. Well said

“Freedom of Speech” is in the Constitution of the United States, not guaranteed in other countries.

^ @YARNLADY said it. I wish he was allowed though. Maybe then he could die of malaria.

@NerdyKeith Thank you. I could say the same for @YARNLADY .

This is one of those things where you have to try to hold down the vomit but you gotta let him say/be what he wants otherwise you’re just hypocritical.

YARNLADY's avatar

@rojo Or, perhaps you could issue a rebuttal on Facebook or such.

@rojo

Why is that? He’s not a resident of ether the United Kingdom or South Africa, so why are they obligated to allow him entry into their countries?

Sure, an ignorant hater can say whatever he wants to. But there are consequences to that.

In this case, one of those consequences is being barred entry into countries who find you and your ideas reprehensible.

And now he’s also been deported out from Botswana after advocating for the execution of gay people
