How can I stop these driver power state failures?

Asked by ScottyMcGeester (1897points) September 14th, 2016

Almost every day all my USB ports stop working sporadically. I have an external wireless card so I know when the Internet suddenly drops. I’m still able to use my wireless mouse and keyboard, but if I remove the receiver from the USB port and then plug it in again, it doesn’t respond.

So I restart my computer and in the middle of the restart, I get a blue screen that says “Driver Power State Failure”. And it restarts. It also does this if I decide to power down after the USB ports stop responding.

Now. Earlier this year I made the wonderful mistake of installing Driver Easy – a program that “updates” your drivers. I thought it would be better than Windows updates but then I realized that it didn’t seem to do anything. I had my suspicions and removed the program. I think this issue with the USB and the blue screens started after that. Unfortunately, I don’t have any restore points to a date before I decided to use Driver Easy.

I checked Device Manager and tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the USB drivers, but I still get these issues. My antivirus programs haven’t been able to find anything.
