For one thing, people keep giving them attention.

Can you give some pointers which styles you’re referring to?

First you ask what is wrong with them, and then you call their style terrible.

So, are you defending them or are you against them?

Morgan Spurlock does a show on CNN called Inside Man. One of the first episodes was him trying to be paparazzi. The Kardashian crew actually called the paparazzi to let them know where she would be. It is like a perpetual motion machine of fake famous.

Formula for success in the 21st Century:

Narcissism + Social Media – Talent = Kardashians

I enjoy ignoring them.

Usually to get famous, you need to have some special talent like making music or acting. Or you need to be noteworthy or outstanding in some other way, like being at the top of your field in politics, winning a Nobel prize, or at least being funny or something. People are mad because the Kardashian family get outsize rewards for mediocrity. Like, they don’t really do anything, and they earn millions of dollars for it. The things that keep them in the limelight are vapid time-wasters like tabloid gossip and red carpet appearances.

Just as an example, the Jenner sisters wrote a dystopian sci-fi novel using a ghostwriter and it flopped. As teenage girls, they have access to things that are out of most people’s reach (in this case, the publishing industry.) They hired someone else to write it, and it was still shitty. That’s kind of like a ten car pileup of mediocrity and privilege.

They have achieved a level of success and prosperity that few can even attempt. Whatever they are doing works for them, no matter how much so many disparage their methods.
I am not personally a fan, I prefer my Cardassians to have ridgey faces and necks, but I admit to being a bit fascinated by the level of mastery of the system to achieve such lucrative notoriety.
American marketing genius as its finest.

What, exactly, is wrong with that?

They act like this because idiots in the population are interested in them. If we (the population of the world) ignored them, they would fade away.

Every historical period has fools and jesters. The Kardashians are ours…

There’s nothing wrong with them. They’ve monetized a brand.

I’m fairly sure they’re not ruling the world. Most of the world that isn’t focused on American celebrities isn’t aware of them at all.

Nobody really cares about them. They somewhow have captured just enough of a wayward glance from the public to provide broadcasters and publications enough ad revenue for them to keep them in the spotlight.

They are obsessed with themselves, way too much.

When your fame (or notoriety) begins with the release of a sex tape, is it any wonder that it’s all downhill from there?

As long as the public rewards shallow brainless merit less mediocrity and sensationalism, we will continue to get the “celebrities” we deserve.

Narcissism.
