Is image enough to differentiate from the competition?

Adding on to my previous question, I am still continuing to do my research on a part-time business I would like to start (hopefully it can become full-time!)

Originally I was thinking wedding rentals online, but I started thinking about how I wanted to reach different locations around the country.

So I thought about it and found a website closest to what I would like to start. It is called rent my weddings and they offer DIY light rentals for weddings (other parties too) to transform an ordinary room just by light. They have easy set up photo booths, monograms, backdrops, special effect lighting, etc.

They have great reviews, ship anywhere in the country free, and have easy set up. How can I compete with that?

The only thing I can think of is the vibe. I like their website but it is very clubbish rather than “wedding”. But their site is easy to use! They offer packages and if I started one I would offer “theme” packages like “starry night”, “winter wonderland”, “soft and romantic” etc. with images of the places. Giving tips on decorating.

Also, they don’t offer submersible LED lights for center pieces which look awesome. No lanterns either or any light type of piece. No other items to rent except a photo booth and chair covers.

So is image, offering slightly different packages and more items enough to differentiate?

I’m thinking how Coke and Pepsi are the same yet they’re both very successful. Maybe there’s room for another lol.

Well other than that check on pricing model also. Check their prices and see if you can offer some discounts / special schemes etc. Mouth publicity is equally important as it can fetch more customers for you in areas around you.

Good idea. I went to a ramen place and just for hash tagging them and taking a pic I got free ice cream. Later, three people on my Facebook went there to eat lol. Maybe somehow use that… Hashtag and share for a discount or another item thrown in.

Yeah.. should be good for starters!

Find yourself a web jockey who can use Google analytics to show you the activity of this other website to see what level of interest they do generate to see if it would even be worth emulating.
