Pretty much a same rope, different ends scenario. I don’t think there really is a better/worse continuum, affairs of the hearts or affairs of the parts, the end result is usually the same, someone is going to get hurt, one way or another.

At my age, physical injuries that may not be reparable concern me more. But I have to admit that the only time in my life that I ever contemplated suicide was due to the terrible ending of a great love affair. Believe it or not, I too was once a tender lad.

It’s very individual / couple specific.

I don’t particularly value physical fidelity, so from my perspective emotional affairs are more of a problem for a relationship.

As the saying goes, your mileage may vary.

Haha. I misunderstood the question. The physical is always the initial attraction, but without the emotional connection, love making eventually becomes hard labor, not a labor of love.

I did wonder about what physical injuries @Espiritus_Corvus suffers while having affairs.

Perhaps more athletic than some?

Physical. Because of the risk of STD ‘s and pregnancy. But emotional hurts too.

I would never be tempted to have a purely physical affair if that answers your question.
