Are you supposed to wear thermals all day?

Asked by XiaoMandyX (165points) November 11th, 2016

I’m new to NYC and I bought some comfy thermals (leggings and top). I’m wondering if I’m suppose to wear them all day or take them off when I get to work?

Are you wearing them under your clothes or as your clothes? If you are wearing them under and it is cold where you work, you can wear them all day.

Most people wear them when they’re going to be outside all day but as @chyna says if you are wearing them under you clothes you can keep them on for comfort.

Warning!!! Once you start wearing them you won’t want to take them off! They feel so good.
I wear mine under my clothes.

From someone that has worked outdoors in 40 below zero F.

I’ve worn four layers, but not if I was going to be indoors.

@LuckyGuy nailed it.

I don’t see why not, unless your work has a dress code.

Thermals are underwear. It’s up to you.

Unless your work is 50F or below I would change out of the thermals.

I’m in and out so much during the day I keep mine on. The only reason to take them off when you get to work is if you are too warm. Wool is your friend.

I wear them all day in winter weather.

My experience in NYC is I’m too hot inside work buildings if I have them on top and bottom all day. It depends how warm they keep your building. I’d rather be cold during a 20 minute commute and comfortable all day. Usually for work I don’t wear thermal bottoms, just on top, or in lieu of a thermal top I might wear a turtle neck.

Don’t get me wrong, I love comfy thermals. They make a huge difference. I wear them as pajamas sometimes.

The secret to layering and keeping warm is your first layer be right up against your skin, which is why thermals are so effective.

NYC generally has good heat. The majority of the city works on the centralized steam heat system.
