Won't GOP turmoil only increase with Trump at the wheel?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) November 16th, 2016 from iPhone

I don’t understand the relief on the part of Republicans now that the wrecking ball is loose.

Some may feel that the OK to create havoc has been given, that any act will go unpunished.

They now have a racist President who wants to do away with Medicare, Medicaid, abortion rights, Obamacare and environmental laws. He has a plan to cut taxes for the wealthy at the expense of all but the few at the top. He is abusive towards ethnic and religious minorities and women. He is an authoritarian who encourages violence among his followers and is dismissive of civil rights.

Those are all long-standing goals and values among conservatives. Why would there be turmoil?

They are relieved the nation avoided the bath in napalm Jezebel Hillary would have let loose on it.

@MollyMcGuire Are you aware of a different GOP agenda?

Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are planning on full repeal of Affordable Care. Paul Ryan stated this week “privatizing” Medicare, which would gut health care for seniors. Trump has said he wants to shut down the EPA, and his choice for director is a climate change

And his named chief strategist is a white supremacist misogynist.

There may be some points of disagreement, like trade treaties and foreign alliances, but there is a whole lot of agreement. The rich will get richer, the poor and middle class will be poorer and corporations will have fewer regulations. There will be tighter restrictions on immigration and a greater degree of deportation. Protections for LBGT will be removed. There will be a concerted effort to gut or eliminate Roe v. Wade. These are all points of agreement between Trump and the rest of the Republicans.

The Washington Elite have cause for concern. Democrats and Republicans alike have spent decades focusing all power in Washington and now we’ve elected a president that will not cower to the to the political elite. Scary but also refreshing. He is not beholding to anyone but the electorate. I wish he was a small government advocate but alas, he’s not. Otherwise I see better days ahead.

I fear both you and the GOP misjudge the man and his motives

Mr. Trump doesn’t seem to have any real connection to the Republican party. It looks like it will be a wild ride for both major parties as well as the country. I wish there was a way to wall the action (and impact) inside the US.

Mr. Trump doesn’t seem to have any real connection to the Republican party.

He was the Republican nominee elected in the Republican primaries by Republican voters and is in now in talks with the Republican Congress members to, among other things, fulfill the Republican goal of eliminating Medicare and Obamacare.

It could if Mr. Trump does what I think he’ll do: Go his own way, do his own thing. He’s a Moderate in Republican clothing.
