Help! The ads in Yahoo Mail are driving me crazy! What is the best ad blocker out there?

Asked by 2davidc8 (10189points) November 18th, 2016

Hopefully, an ad blocker that won’t slow down my computer or mess up the browser.

I’m running Windows 7 and use both IE 11 and Chrome.

Thanks!

Doesn’t Chrome have adblocking?

I use Firefox with Adblock Plus and almost never get any ads. The only exception is a rare one I get in my inbox, which I delete by either deleting some other message or reloading my email.

On top of Adblock, you can use another email client to read and send Yahoo mail.

I have used Gmail and Outlook.com (not the desktop program, the web site) to access Yahoo mail. I’ve been using Gmail since it was invite-only, but I am starting to use Outlook.com a lot because it’s very simple and uncluttered.

First you set up a Gmail or Outlook.com account and email address.

Then in Settings you add your Yahoo account.

Ghostery works well for me. It’s a browser plug-in. Even though I’m on a Mac, It’s available for Windows too.

When I first started using Yahoo Mail, I had the same problem. The banner ad that they situate within the Inbox email list is incredibly obnoxious. I looked everywhere for a solution, and couldn’t find one – didn’t know about Ghostery at the time; maybe that’s a solution.

But eventually, my eye began to pick up the size difference between the banner and the emails, to the point that I don’t even see the damned things anymore. All of which is to say… I thought I would have to pitch Yahoo, but eventually managed to overcome that. So there’s hope!
