The good the bad and the ugly of the 2016/2017 Toyota Corolla?

Asked by omfgTALIjustIMDu (9272points) November 30th, 2016

I am unfortunately in the market for a new (or lightly used) car and have settled on exploring the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Accord, and Subaru Impreza. Mostly interested in the Corolla if there are no glaring differences, as I’ve had 2 Toyotas and been very happy with them.
What is your opinion (based on experience please) on any or all of these cars, particularly the Corolla years 2013–2017?

@omfgTALIjustIMDu I am also a happy Toyota owner. I just bought a 2 year old Camry LE and it’s a very nice car. Was driving a 1996 Corolla. This my 2nd Camry and my third Toyota. IMHO it’s hard to go wrong with a Toyota.

@si3tech why did you switch from Corolla to Camry? I personally prefer the smaller size of the Corolla over the Camry, but am curious why you made the switch.

@omfgTALIjustIMDu My first Toyota was a Camry and I really liked it. And, now that I have this one I realized the Corolla was smaller and I kind of wish I had gotten smaller too.

The differences between the Corolla and the Civic are profound:

The Toyota was made by a company that previously made weaving equipment.

The Honda was made by a company founded by a race car driver.

The Civic, no matter how seemingly banal the model you choose is is based on a performance car that has been detuned for American utility.

Behold the latest Civic Type R

This econobox makes nearly 300HP and is capable of 168MPH. It is the fastest front drive car to circle the Nürburgring.

Even if you don’t choose this astounding model, the more conventional trim levels share much of it’s DNA.

There is nothing even remotely close to a Corolla equivalent.

Reliability, longevity and cost of ownership figures for Toyota and Honda are basically neck and neck.

Hi! Wow! I don’t know the answer to your question, but just hi. Long time.

I’m very happy with my 2013 Corolla, if that helps at all.
