I think it’s a wonderful thing to experience this moment, especially with all difficulties in China.

I’m excited. I love the Olympics. I also hope it helps China to be more progressive in their human rights policies not to mention their views on the environment. I think it will be a great experience!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! lord be praised, I have to agree, there are actually some people who think that china has surpassed us in economy, but are still behind in their human rights.

I’ve been, kind of cynical given all the doping cases that have been coming out in the news, but yesterday I managed to catch women’s soccer and was entranced by North Korea’s skill. They were amazing, and it was like watching good ice hockey in terms of passing and creating openings.

I heard in the news this morning that China told the U.S to keep their noses out of their business what are your thoughts on that seeing as that might affect the Olympics?

I’d love to be there and run the marathon with a “free tibet” t-shirt, even if that costs me the expulsion form the games or any other kind of sanction, or another one saying “stop polluting our planet”

The sooner China learns that everything it does will dramatically affect the world the better.

I don’t about expulsion but you might have to endure the Chinese water torture my patriotic friend:)

Cough, Cough. What was that you said? It’s noon and still can’t see the track heats. However, I am very impressed by the architectural marvels that the Chinese gov has built (i.e. The Bird’s Nest and Water Cube). Not only are the gems to the eye but also technological masterpieces as well.

Of course i have to agree i love art and masterpieces I’m somewhat of an artist myself and i learn to appreciate anything deemed as art cause it has a significant importance big or small.

I know I’m in the vast minorty here, but I couldn’t care less. I don’t discount the wonderful accomplishments of the atheletes…they should be proud…any time you’re better than the vast majority of the rest of the world at anything you should be proud. I just have no desire to watch it. I’ve got absolutely no interest in watching televised sports of any kind, never have…never will. But enjoy it, those of you who do love to watch it…it willl be over before you know it.

we (the rest of the world) should have planned some kind of boycott or anything similar, to see if they learn the lesson on human rights et all :)

How do you live with yourself, i mean no offense?

dalepetrie's avatar

Politically speaking I think it will ultimately give some pretty bad PR to China, but China has never cared what the rest of the world thinks, it’s not about to start now. As long as they can control what their own people hear and say. I’d love to see them start paying attention to basic human rights, but Tianamen Square didn’t do it, the Olympics won’t either.

wrestlemaniac's avatar

Their only care is that they get attention the olympics is taking place on their turf, they get, attention and money.

I get that, I think it’s horrible that the IOC didn’t see through them like 20 year old underwear, but once they had the games it was a done deal. Every world leader could have boycotted the opening ceremonies and again it would have been symbolic, no one would have cared. Unless the entire free world had boycotted the games altogether, it never would have made any difference (that would have at least been less of a financial boon for their government). But in a world driven by money, that would never happen. Not to mention, these atheletes are at their peak, this would essentially deny some of them a shot at living the dream they’ve had their whole lives. I’d hate to punish them to make a point that would ultimately not change anything. Again, it might ostracise China, and would take some dough out of their pockets, but in the end, they don’t care what anyone else thinks. And it’s clear from the reaction of the Chinese people to the torch protests that they would have seen it not as a failure of China, but as a hostile action from the rest of the world that was out to get them (such is the paranoia with which they’ve brainwashed their citizens). Real change is going to take time…they’ll need to discover that in the end, Democratic Capitalism has always worked out better than Authoritiarian Capitalism. That’s not a lesson we can teach with one Olympics.
