What could NDP stand for in the context of the mosque shooter, since it can't be the federal party?

Asked by flo (13313points) February 1st, 2017

Somewhere in the media, they said he is a fan of Trump Le Pen, ...and NDP. What is NDP since it can’t possibly be one of the federal parties, New Democratic Party that they are referring to. Is there another org or a party with that name somewhere else that could apply in this case?

That is the best I could come up with. If he was into that garbage the pieces fit.

Edit: Actually that link does mention NDP.

Bissonnette’s Facebook profile was deleted at some point on Monday, and combing through an archived screenshot showed he “liked” a wide range of pages that did not fall under a specific ideology. Among the pages he “liked” were those of U.S. President Donald Trump, far-right French politician Marine Le Pen, the federal NDP and former NDP leader Jack Layton.

However “liking” doesn’t necessarily mean agree with.

He also “liked” Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens.

I have all their books.

It sounds like Canada’s New Democratic Party as Jack Layton (see johnpowell’s post above) was its leader from 2003 to 2011.

The article says he “liked” the NDP’s Facebook page, and Jack Layton’s page, so yes, it appears to be Canada’s New Democratic Party.

That doesn’t mean that he literally liked the party; he obviously opposed everything they stand for. He probably “liked” the Facebook pages to leave comments there, or just to keep tabs on what they were posting. I have liberal friends who do the same with right-wing parties, just to contradict lies or misinformation posted by their members.

Conversely, maybe he only recently became a right-winger, and had “liked” the pages years ago. Who knows?

Thanks all.
I don’t know why you still have to “like” a site before you can post go in and/or post something.
