What did North Carolina change about House Bill 2 (public bathrooms/transgenders)?

Asked by flo (13313points) March 31st, 2017

From 4th paragraph:
“It was met with bitter criticism from gay rights groups, which said it was barely a repeal at all, and from conservatives, who said it backtracked on protecting public safety and traditional values.”

Is it repealed or not repealed?

It has not been repealed. This is window dressing.

They repealed the state legislation but stated that local municipalities could not enact antidiscrimination policies.

It was a compromise that neither the left nor the right are happy with. Outright repeal was tried and failed several times.

LGBT are still discriminated against. We will see what happens next with the NCAA and other organizations for future events !

I live in North Carolina

The Republicans want anything to to do with LGBT to move to another state or burn on the closest street corner. The Republicans all received the speech about all Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals and Transsexuals from their Pastor when they were eight years old; that “all LGBTs were abominations.”

Sports teams said they would not play in the state so they are trying to please the college sports teams without really making a change. I hope the teams dig in their tar heels. (See what I did there. I made a sports joke!)

It was about money, It’s ALWAYS about money! They were losing millions not being able to host NCAA events. The Republicans in North Carolina couldn’t care less about LGBT people.

@Rarebear AreN’t those statements contradictory?

“They repealed the state legislation ”
“Outright repeal was tried and failed several times.”
