General Question

Have you or anyone you know recently been experiencing "fuzzy" or "spacey" lightheadedness? Trouble concentrating?

Asked by redhen4 (520points) April 3rd, 2017

For several months, and it seems to be getting worse, I have had trouble concentrating, transposing letters while typing, losing train of thought, and yet other times I have moments of strange clarity.

I’ve always been a little slow on the uptake, so clarity isn’t a ‘normal’ for me. My thoughts seem less focused, even trying to get my thoughts out for this question is difficult. Yet I can focus on a tv show, or read a book, or play a game on my Kindle and am focused. I do seem to be getting slower in the games though.

I’ve had this for a while now, and thought it was a medication I was taking. So I’ve been weening off it for the past couple months, last dose taken over a week ago. Depression is a factor. However, medication did not help.

Recently I’ve had a few other people mention the same issue, but so far as I know neither is on medication nor do they have the same issues I have.

I swear, I’m beginning to think it is something in the water, like a bad sci-fi movie! Like when they said Alzheimers was caused by aluminum cookware or they put something in the milk.

I stopped taking medicine in order to stop this feeling, but wonder if it isn’t only getting worse?

I see the doctor in another week, but in the meantime I thought I’d ask Fluther. Haven’t been here in quite a while.

Yes. I have an ensure twice a day and eat enough to fuel my brain. So most of my dizziness is gone. I have also stopped drinking milk and pop for 5 months now. I don’t drink coffee or energy drinks.

I do have this too. I believe mine is medication. I had with my doc’s approval lowered the dosage a bit, but then my anxiety got bad again, so I went back up. It’s a double edged sword. So for now, I am choosing the brain fog side over the anxiety. I hope you get to doing better. I know how bad it sucks.

I’ve had those symptoms from various causes from time to time, due to medication, fatigue, lack of sleep, stress, and illness.

Sure. You don’t say what age group you are in. Peri- and actual menopause can affect your ability to focus. Hormone issues generally can do the same. Could this type of thing be affecting you?

Similarly, stress, depression or being overwhelmed by things in your life will inhibit your ability to focus.

Are you physically well? If it’s really affecting you, tell your doctor when you see them. Perhaps keep a journal to log how you are feeling so you have some examples of what is happening and how it’s affecting you.

I have been meditating regularly since Christmas to try to give my brain some quiet time. I don’t know if it’s improving my focus, but it helps me to relax.

Make sure they check your thyroid.

They will probably check your glucose also, so if your doctors office can draw blood right there, you might want to show up to the appointment fasting.

Have you checked your. Loud pressure?

Allergy season makes me particularly sleepy and spacey. A few years ago at work I actually slipped right out of my chair. I thought I was still sitting up straight til I landed on the floor. Oops.

Yes, I have found myself subject to fuzzy/spacey thinking, trouble concentrating and lightheadedness but I usually put it down to the volume of alcohol I consume. Do you drink much?

Have some blood work done and have the doctors check your thyroids. It could be something as simple as lacking some nutrients.
I was going through the same thing and found that I was low in magnesium. Taking magnesium has made sleeping better and my mind is clearer. I take a mix with vitamin d and calcium since I am also low in vitamin D. Not saying your problem is magnesium, but with today’s diet, most people don’t get all the nutrients they actually need in their daily diet. Sometimes though no fault of our own. Our soil is so depleted of nutrients that many of our veggies and fruits don’t have half the nutrients it use to have. Or we cook the crap out of everything and lose the nutritious value it has.
