I’m trying to understand it. Who is the bastard in there? The ones that always take sides, or the ones that never take sides? Or both of them?

The first and the second verse seem so contradicting…

Everyone is a bastard, an asshole, in this song.

It seems to be more of a song about identity and ego making everyone too combative and argumentative to be part of a conciliatory society.
