I heard of a Japanese school girl falling into the past through a magic well, and ending up marrying a half-human half- dog demon.

My father’s parents had an arranged marriage. Both were Christmas cakes, so to say, so their parents decided to hook them up and get them off their backs. She was around five years older than him.

According to the witnesses, they lived in peace and had a more or less stable marriage, despite never being in love.

Before I heard of this, I always imagined arranged marriages as some distant, barbaric custom that was done somewhere far far away, in Middle ages or so. To think that my own grandparents not only had an arranged marriage in XX century, but respected each other and lived in peace, is slightly bizarre to me. Amazing too.

Interesting you should ask that question now in light of this

^ With the exception of the school teacher angle, why is that a bizarre marriage or love story?

ragingloli's avatar

hardly more bizarre than texans marrying their sisters.

My grandpa was a devoted communist, and my grandma was in favor of the French government. They met and got married and she changed her political view through his influence.

Strange enough?

I don’t think so either @Sneki. I just wondered what @LostInParadise thinks is bizarre about their relationship.

I went on one date with a man who married a woman who was in her 60s and he was 21. They were married for 20 years. That is quite an age gap.

imrainmaker's avatar

^^ How old were you at that time? Just to know if you had a chance..)) Just kidding.

janbb's avatar

@imrainmaker I was older than him but apparently not older enough! :-)

I know a few.
This one was in the paper 20 years ago. I don’t remember their names, so I have changed them.
Alan and Beth were happily married, and tried to have children. After failing to get pregnant, they went to the doctor, and found out Alan was sterile.
Beth was depressed, and Alan was miserable. They both longed to be parents. Alan had a friend named Charlie, and Charlie and his wife Donna had a couple beautiful children. Alan suggested that Beth get pregnant by Charlie, who looked a lot like Alan.
Donna didn’t like the idea, but Charlie agreed. After a couple months of continued failure, Beth demanded Charlie go to the doctor. Turns out he was also sterile. Donna then admitted that their children were the product of an affair she had.
When the article was in the paper, everyone was getting divorced.

This story involved a friend of mine (once again, names changed):
Leslie and Mary were a lesbian couple who wanted children. They wanted the kids to share both their DNA, so they approached my friend Kent, who was Leslie’s brother. Kent agreed to get Mary pregnant, and was tested for Aids, since Kent was in a homosexual relationship himself. Kent’s test was clear, and this gay man began trying to get his lesbian sister’s girlfriend pregnant.
Soon afterward, Kent tested positive for HIV.
Turns out Mary was a drug user who shared needles. This lesbian had given AIDS to a gay man.
Kent died a year later.

@Earthbound_Misfit , Macron was 15 years old when he fell in love with a teacher who was 39 years older. It is not just that she was older, but that he was only 15 years old.

@LostInParadise Isn’t the rule twice your age plus nine? ~

kritiper's avatar

I had a supervisor once say that he married his wife figuring that “She’ll do.”

kritiper's avatar

@janbb For men, ½ your age plus 7.

Don’t forget about Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau Story Here

She was his teacher. They met when he was in 5th or 6th grade, which is just gross if you think about an adult teacher having the hots for a child, not even a teenager yet.

@filmfann I think that normally when a person is a sperm donor they don’t normally, actually have sex with the person. Do they?

ragingloli's avatar

Then there was Jadzia Dax resuming her relationship with his/her ex wife, after both symbionts already changed hosts several times, even though Trill law specifically forbids it.

filmfann's avatar

@Dutchess_III in this case they did. I imagine they were trying to save money.
I also remember my friend Sally, who asked me to father her child. She wanted implantation the old fashioned way. When I reminded her that I had been fixed, she found someone else. They were “gardening” for a couple months, when he admitted that he had been fixed.

What an asshole.

NomoreY_A's avatar

@Dutchess_III “What an asshole”... You called?

filmfann's avatar

Yup. Quite the asshole, considering that he wasted what were possibly her last fertile months just for frequent sex.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Wow, really @filmfann? Wow. Did she ever have a baby?

filmfann's avatar

Yes and no.
She had a child years before, who she gave up for adoption.

Ugh! Whom not who
