How much money should I ask for our used dryer?

Asked by jonsblond (43667points) May 8th, 2017

We have a 4 year old Whirlpool Cabrio dryer that I’d like to sell. It works fine, we just desperately need some quick cash. I don’t have the specifics on the dryer but we paid $600 for it.

What would be a fair price to ask for it? I’ll be advertising on Facebook in local for sale groups.

I googled and it looked like people ask $400 to $600 for the washer dryer set, but I didn’t click and see how old they are. So, I guess you could ask $200—$300 maybe? I really have no knowledge of the used appliance pricing though.

I recommend spend some time on eBay and Craig’s list, and see if you can find some competition to get a rough idea for your area.

$300 maybe $250, with buyer doing pick-up CASH.

About $200.00

Ask for $225.00 and settle for $200.00 People like to believe they are getting a deal.

Used appliances, like furniture don’t have a good re-sale value, maybe $200.00 but people looking for used appliances are usually looking for a cheap deal otherwise they would be purchasing new ones. If it were 2 years old or less you could ask more, but at 4 years old it’s gonna be harder to get top dollar.
Sorry you’re going through a rough patch, life can really suck sometimes.

I went with a low number considering where we live. I asked $150 and within an hour I received an offer for $100. She just needs to find a way to get it.

Ugh, she said she found someone to help Sunday. We’ll be out of money by Friday. What do I do if I get another offer?

@jonsblond: You can tell her you decided to keep it, if you want to lie.

You can tell her to pay you now and pick it up this weekend and see if she goes for that.

Coloma's avatar

^ yeah, maybe just tell her that you really need the cash by the weekend and that if she can pay in advance you will hold it for her, otherwise, first come, first serve cash in hand.

Go @jca ‘s route, ask for payment.

Ok, thank you so much everyone. This advice will help in the future.

She doesn’t live far so I offered to bring it to her sooner. It’ll fit in our SUV and our son can help me.

I received another $100 offer and they’re picking up tonight. I’m going to tell the first person that Jon brought a coworker home and bought it if everything works out tonight.

Dude gave me $125. Woohoo, we’re eating this week. Lol

@jonsblond Yay! Fuck, sometimes, sometimes. Glad it worked out for you.

I usually cut the price in half if it is still in good working condition.
Now if you haven’t cleaned the machine inside and out, then I would reduce it another 100 to 200 depending on how bad it looks.
People care about two things on a used washer.
1. Is it working.
2. Does it look like it’s been maintained or severely neglected. (Severely neglected may mean it’s running on fumes, so not worth buying)

My machines always look like new. I keep it very clean inside and out and make sure there is no rust build up on it.

I’m so sorry you’re strapped. :(.

I’d say $550 OBO. Go for it. I bet you can get $400.

Let us know please.

@Dutchess_III: She let us know above.
