Do you think there should be dislike button for a question?

Asked by imrainmaker (8380points) May 11th, 2017

It may not necessarily reduce the score but will give the idea to OP if question is not liked by the community.

The problem is, the dislike button will be abused quickly. It’s much easier to dislike than like. People will dislike a question out of personal feeling toward the OP, and things get ugly quickly.

It’s also more polite to let the OP know that their questions has a small amount of likes than let them know there are several dislike next to their little likes.

Flagging is a pretty good method, already in place, that lets the mods make decisions based on guidelines. A “dislike” button would only serve to embarrass the asker, completely defeating the founders’ original intent of having this be a place of civil discourse.

Dislike buttons are lazy. They are ways of disagreeing without putting forth any sort of reason for why you disagree or disapprove. This is in contrast with like buttons, which are useful ways of expressing agreement without cluttering up threads with posts consisting of nothing more than “me too” or “I agree” when the person you are agreeing with has said everything that needs to be said.

LOL….

If jellies don’t like a question, they’ll let the OP know quickly. Trust me…

Nah. That’s just a bit too passive aggressive for my tastes. Anonymous dislikes are for cowards, pussies. Even Flagging is bullshit, unless someone claims the flag. People here are pretty out front when they don’t like something, or they just don’t see it as worthwhile commenting upon.

There are some real snowflakes, but they are kept at a minimum. Don’t encourage that sort with another anonymous tool they can use to jab with.

No, it wouldn’t really serve a purpose, other than to piss people off. Flagging is best, for a Q that one thinks should really not be on here, but even then, the Mods ultimately make that call, not us. Also, simply not answering a Q because you think it’s stupid or foolish is a pretty good way to deal with a bad question.

No, just ignore what you don’t like. Free speech and all that.

No, pointless, childish and too easily abused. If I don;t like a Q. I ignore it.

I agree with everything said above. I’d rather have people come out and say they don’t like a question (which has happened to me, though I’m also referring to my experiences on other sites) than use a passive-aggressive tool to show it. I was a member of another site that used to have a down vote button; it created so much drama that there would be a few questions posted every day about downvoting and calling out down-voters, etc. In my experience, it adds more drama and only serves to discourage people from asking questions (and this site suffers from lack of questions enough as it is). So I would say “dislike” on the dislike button :)

Like buttons already can present some problems with “circle-jerking”, to use a crude phrase, but I’ll take the negatives of it in order to have a simple way to show someone you read and appreciated their post without having to respond individually to each one.

If I don’t like a question I scroll on down and don’t respond.

I take it that someone pushed a virtual “dislike” button, since some of the posts are gone.

Looks like they went further than that.

I dislike THIS question. Where the hell is that button?

^^ I don’t mind if Fluther team adds it.

Those who would love such a fuction find other ways to cleanse their disdain, gossiping bullshit through pm’s & fb like a herd of irritated buffalo.
Let them be, it entertains me enormously :)

No. If you like a comment, LIKE it. If you don’t, lump it.
