Why do the current "witch hunts" garner so much traction?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) June 19th, 2017 from iPhone

After all, nothing in the history of the country can match the thirty years of effort devoted to upending the Clintons. And not a single investigation of our Kenyan President, while the white man barely has time to remove his hand from the bible to face accusations from the “dishonest” press. What’s up?

As if the same thing is not happening with Trump. It was like that with George Bush to a degree also. Whoever the president is a witch hunt is guaranteed. I can’t say the press is honest.

Traction is just a symptom of the fact that muckraking works.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Ignore the muck? Muckraking is undesirable?

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

I think so, it certainly wastes a lot of time and resources. Cheap shots are low hanging fruit in political warfare. Many people simply can’t tell a real scandal from muckraking either. That’s one reason it’s so effective.

But isn’t muckraking the principal reason Southern Pacific no longer owns California, or canned meat won’t poison you?

Traction is garnered when there is some kind of solid footing to be found under all the muck.

”...And not a single investigation of our Kenyan President” Because he had scruples and had a higher standard to meet than Clinton or Trump.

Clinton and Trump came into office with a lot of questionable connections. Trump owes hundreds of millions to Russian banks and ties to the Mafia; Clinton had questionable finances and dealings while Governor of Arkansas.

They aren’t witch hunts if there are known questionable deals.

@Call_Me_Jay are any of these over yet? Did they ever reach a conclusion?

When it comes to the Legislative and Executive branches of government, there are not enough Witch Hunts.

Every one of them should live with a certain uneasiness that they are going to be scrutinized and held to account.

For lots of reasons, not the least of which they spend billions of dollars of OUR money but they are absolved of fiduciary responsibility. What kind of bullshit is that?

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

@rojo I assume they all stopped on November 10th. The link has details.

Republicans admitted that the goal was to smear Hillary Clinton. Not much point after the election.

The current president is fond of this kind of term and uses them profusely. His speech patterns resemble those of a pre-teen.

@josie or in the words of Alan Moore “People should not be afraid of their goverment, government should be afraid of their people”
