What is the probability of getting two pinks balls?

Asked by Pinguidchance (5040points) July 8th, 2017

I have two purses: one is pink and the other is periwinkle.

The pink purse contains 1 pink ball and 6 periwinkle balls. The periwinkle purse contains one pink ball and 14 periwinkle balls. I draw 1 ball from the pink purse with my left hand and 1 ball from the periwinkle purse with my right hand, simultaneously with replacement, until either 1 or 2 pinks balls are revealed.

What is the probability that 2 pink balls will be revealed at the same time (finishing the game)?

What is the probability that 1 pink ball will appear in my right hand (finishing the game)?

Wow.

There are two ways of solving this question.

One way uses recursive probability theory and the other way uses an elegant guess.
