Can a private loan company call my friends?

Asked by jessica92 (10points) July 27th, 2017

My student loan company is calling my friends. The company was never given any information about them. Is this legal? What can I do?

I don’t think it’s legal. They have nothing to do with your loans. You can check with a attorney though for next course of action.

Is the company calling your friends as any part of their attempt to collect on your debt? If so, they might be in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act of 1977. See here and here.

How on earth do they even know who your friends are?
