Firefox 3.0.1 crashes when theme installed?

Asked by fortris (683points) August 11th, 2008

I’ve tried this twice now, and after restarting, it opening and then crashes while the bar at the bottom shows its still up. I’m using Windows Vista, Firefox 3.0.1 and I tried the Aero fox and Aquatint Black Gloss theme.

First, did you install Firefox 3 compatible themes? Second, you can try to start Firefox in safe mode: Start > Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). Then open Tools : Add-ons to remove the themes.

Did you upgrade to FF3 directly from FF2 without uninstalling? If so i would suggest a full uninstall and delete of local files and reinstall of FF3.

@b Yes, and I managed to get it back.

@battlemarz I have not used firefox before 3. I recently upgraded to 3.0.1 (today) And it shuts down because the window bar disapears! When is the Windows Vista version of firefox?

Firefox 3 supports Vista just fine. I would suggest 2 things: A) doing as battlemarz suggest and perform a full un-install from Programs and Features or B) loading Firefox in safe mode with Add-ons disabled and remove all themes and plug ins. Then you can download new themes and plug ins that support Firefox 3.

From looking around the web you do not seem to be alone. I would install FF2 or 3.0.0 until they release another update which fixes whatever problem they are having.
