So, how was YOUR weekend?

Asked by Love_my_doggie (12958points) August 13th, 2017

My home burned on Friday morning. No, this isn’t a joke.

I live in an urban condo. The people 2 floors above me started a fire that spread quickly, caused very extensive damage, and displaced everyone within the building.

My dog, cat, and I got out and are fine (husband was at work), but we’ll be homeless for the next 6 months. I need to deal with the insurance company tomorrow and try to figure out where we’ll be staying.

A little Jelly-Love would be a nice thing indeed.

Oh Sweetie – that is terrible! So sorry that happened.

Man, this would be bad enough if you had started the fire yourself, but to be at the mercy of whatever your neighbors happen to do makes it doubly unfortunate.

Upside: everyone in your family is OK.

If I may ask, why 6 months ?? If you own the condo, the insurance company should put you back on your feet almost immediately…..

^^^ It’ll take a while to repair the destruction.

The building’s top floor was incinerated, along with the attic and roof. Everything needs to be reconstructed.

At the same time, the remediator will run super-sized dehumidifiers 24/7 to dry the saturated walls, ceilings, and floors. Meanwhile, there’ll be extensive mold growth, which an environmental company will address.

After all that, reconstruction begins. I’ll need a new kitchen, bathroom, full rewiring, floor and wall replacements, etc.

Oh Jeez! I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope you have some family to take you in, temporarly, while all this mess is getting sorted out. Just glad you and the fur babies got ouy safely.

Speaking of fur babies, I’m dogsitting for 7 pooches at one time! I’ve been licked clean, and rubbed more tummies than you can shake a stick at. I love them so much. Their family had to go out of town for a funeral : (

Glad you are all well. Tragic to see your home burnt and so sorry you have to go through all this. You will soon sort things out for sure but too bad it had to happen. Take care.

Sorry to hear, we have been under great stress this summer as some very large forest fires threatened not only our town but several towns north of us as well.
Hope you get done dealing with insurance as quickly as possible and get your lives back on track.
As for my weekend I worked all weekend.

How can we help?

I don’t know how to help, but there’s some big cyber hug for you. Hope you will find a temporary place to hold out for a while.

Did you manage to save any valuable possession?

Holy crap! That’s awful. So so sorry that happened.

Hopefully, your insurance pays something towards rent money or a hotel? Most policies do.

Flood and fire are merciless. Thank goodness you are all safe, but being displaced and losing the things you love really sucks.

I know too many people who have been through similar losses, it’s so stressful. :(

I actually had a good weekend overall. I met up with a dear, longtime friend and her family at Disney World on Saturday. We walked around the countries in EPCOT and had dinner. I saw other friends (married couple) who I hadn’t seen in a couple of years for an hour this evening. They were staying in the town I live in, and last minute messaged me to meet up.

Oh my gosh, I am SO sorry to hear this! Thankfully you and your pets are fine, if nothing else, that’s really everything. Surely you have friends or family you can stay with temporarily, you don’t mean your are really homeless I hope. Keep us posted and my deepest sympathies for your losses.

My weekend was eventful, had a friend stay ver Friday night fr dinner and drinks and a big BBQ bash today, I am going ti bed now haha

That’s a horrible thing to go through, but I’m so glad you’re all safe. Hopefully your insurance company is good to deal with.

Jellies, your kind words are more helpful than I can even say. When I read your posts, I get lifted and find some renewed energy and focus.

Paul and I are rebuilding the pieces of our lives. Although it’s been only a few days, we’re making slow but steady progress. I keep reminding myself that he, the animals, and I are all that really matter; the rest is just material stuff.

Great to hear, @Love_my_doggie

Stay strong, and keep doin’ what you’re doin’......

@Love_my_doggie But I can only imagine the distress of losing your stuff as well. Long distance hug.

@Love_my_doggie What about a brand new start in an entirely different home? Might be a fun adventure, change things up. Out with the old, in with the new maybe?
