Do you refuse to eat leftovers and why?

Asked by Aster (20023points) August 27th, 2017

The husband of a friend of mine won’t touch leftovers. He calls leftovers “garbage” and whatever is left over after dinner gets thrown in the disposal ! I’m horrified. I can make three meals out of a leftover chicken. Leftover spaghetti is delicious. What do you think of leftovers?

I eat leftovers except sometimes I forget them and then end up discarding them.

As far as what goes on between the other couple, don’t get yourself worked up about it. It’s between them.

No, infact some leftovers are better the second time around but, I am very strong on the three day rule, especially with meats. If I don’t eat the leftovers the very next day or one day later I pitch ‘em.

Nope, I love leftovers. The more lazy I can be with the cooking the better.

I am a leftover eater, but my daughter and brother-in-law are not citing similar reasons to your friend’s hubby.

I will say that my wife, despite being a fabulous cook, is awful at portion planning — so she’ll cook a meal for three as if we are ten. Thus, lots of leftovers. I can only eat the same thing two, maybe, three times.

My favorite food is WIGR. (Whatever is getting rotten).

I eat leftovers the next day… and the next until they are gone. I rarely throw food away.

I will eat leftovers, but I usually don’t have them.

I have had enough leftovers get left in the fridge too long that I try to avoid them. I have become pretty good at only preparing enough for the meal at hand.

Some left overs are better. When I make my pot roast I eat on it for 2 days, then seal up individual servings and freeze them.

I always have left over baked beans and deviled eggs, good for 2 – 3 days.

When the kids were home I’d make spaghetti, then the next day I’d make goulash.

In general, I try not to have left overs any more.

I am the king of leftovers. I even mix completely different types of leftovers from different days (that have different flavors) together and gobble them down. Anything goes. As long as I can fill my stomach I’m a happy camper.

No. When I make food, I almost always make enough so that there are leftovers. That way you don’t cook a meal from scratch every day. It makes packing my lunch for work easier, and gives me more time to do other things.

Like some of the others have said, some food tastes better like soup, marinated salads, and chili) the next day, and some foods taste deliciously different the next day, like cold pizza.

Thansgiving leftovers are the best!

Also, when I go to a restaurant, most of the time the portions are too big for one meal. I’m happy to get 1 or 2 more meals out of it.

Also, the idea of wasting food is terrible. Food costs money. If you don’t eat your leftovers, you are wasting your own money. By throwing away food, you are using up resoirces that could have been more wisely used, such as helping to feed people who are hungry.

We often have leftovers.
My only complaint is that we not have the same thing 4 days in a row.

Not eating left overs is bourgeois and wasteful. And disrespectful of the those on Earth who are starving.
If you have left overs, you should have bought less when you shopped.
If you have leftovers, you should eat them.

I eat leftovers all of the time. I really don’t understand people who refuse to eat leftovers. It’s so wasteful, and almost everything tastes just fine the next day. Some dishes are better the second day.

Probably, half of what people eat in the average restaurant wasn’t prepared in the moment. Places like Outback, Ruby Tuesdays, a lot of it is frozen and microwaved.

And, what do they eat at work? Sandwiches? Go to a restaurant every day? They aren’t sautéing or cooking food at work.

I love leftover meatloaf sandwiches. Leftover lasagna and Chinese food are awesome.

I love leftovers. Even though I only cook for myself, and I can very easily control portion sizes, I always cook enough for four or five meals. That way I have something to take to work for a couple of days worth of lunches, as well as one or two more evening meals.

And if I didn’t like what I was making well enough to eat it for several days in a row, then I wouldn’t have made it in the first place.

Kardamom's avatar

@CWOTUS Plus you can freeze it. That way you don’t have to eat the same thing 4 days in a row, but a few weeks later, you’ll be hankering for whatever yummy thing you made.

@gondwanalon @CWOTUS We all should do dinner sometime! :-)

Dad used to be the king of leftovers. Coming from a family with five kids and two adults, Mom cooked every night and by the end of the week we had a refrigerator filled with miscellaneous leftovers, from hot dogs and beans, to spaghetti, to containers of various fresh-cooked vegetables, roast beef ends… you name it.

Dad would make the most amazing soups every weekend out of what was left, plus a canned soup as a base, and maybe some beef consommé for added liquid. And they were good soups, too! Visitors who’d drop in and have a bowl would want the recipe, and he’d just smile. We never had the same one twice.

We should all have a cook out at @LuckyGuy ranch!

The 2024 eclipse totality center-line is about a mile from my house! That might be a good day. :-)

(Except for the possibility of snow.)

Dutchess_III's avatar

That would be the coolest thing ever,!!!

CWOTUS's avatar

If there isn’t a possibility of snow in Upstate NY, then there’s always a possibility of rain.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Even if we missed the eclipse we’d never forget that party!

LuckyGuy's avatar

Even if there were clouds and rain we’d still see the sky turn to night. Being on the center line we’d be 35 miles from any light in the sky. It would be black! That would be cool!

And we can all eat leftovers!

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’ll bring left overs!!
