What childhood pleasure have you recently re-visited?

Asked by janbb (62863points) October 6th, 2017

I just had a caramel apple and boy was it great. Getting four teeth crowned on Monday so it will be a while before I can indulge again.

Yours?

Candy corn. It’s now available, and once a year I indulge and remember all the fun we had. Faces in the ice cream scoop, with so many candy corn teeth, cupcakes with candy corn, all that stuff. I just eat it straight now, then regret it, but it does take me back.

Reading for hours and hours without interruption…

One child is married and out of the house and the other two have jobs. I actually have TIME to MYSELF.

@tranquilsea Ah yes! That’s a good one!

Swinging in a park swing. I took my grandson to the park and put him on a swing. Wheee!
Then I had to try.

A little while ago I reread some books I enjoyed as a child. They’re the ones I’ve held onto and still have tucked on a spot on my bookshelf.

I found out I still like them. (And that I had good taste back then, if I say so myself ;)

I also found that I was taken back to the times that I read them as a kid, as if when I first read them I had somehow annotated bits of myself onto the margins of the pages. Maybe that sounds sappy when I describe it like that… It was just kind of like with any childhood memento, expect happened when I was reading rather than simply holding the book.

Also, every birthday, I make German chocolate cake. Have for years. Still my favorite, and it’s the only time in the year I have it.

@Soubresaut My Mom would make me banana layer cake with coffee icing for my birthday and I will now frequently make it for myself.

@LuckyGuy You didn’t get dizzy? I’ve gotten a little dizzy when I’ve tried to swing lately. Did a somersault once and nearly passed out – I used to do them all over the yard.

@janbb aw, that’s sweet!

janbb's avatar

@Soubresaut Very sweet but the coffee icing is great!

I bought a quarter of boiled sweets recently and really enjoyed them. I asked for “a quarter” but they now sell them in grams but they taste just the same.

Had Carstairs read a bedtime story to me then tuck me in, kiss me gently on the cheek & slowly leave the room quietly singing…“sweet lil dumplin”

flutherother's avatar

@chyna Yes, what you might call hard candies as @janbb says. This sort of thing

janbb's avatar

@flutherother Not “might” but do in these United States.

Shoot. I’ve spent the past year or so indulging my inner child.
I have a scarf fetish, and found a great source to get lots cheap, so I did, and continue.
Last Christmas I bought myself a home cotton candy maker. (Candy floss)
I have a container of Gourmet Cookie Dough being eaten a bit each evening. This is a product which looks, smells, tastes like cookie dough, but by special recipe is meant to eat as is, no eggs, so safe. I can open the jar, stick in a spoon, and spend fifteen minutes being twelve.
