Would you rather eat tacos or pizza?

Asked by Kardamom (33292points) October 14th, 2017

Tacos and pizza are two things that I often crave, but I think I crave pizza more often.

Because I’m a vegetarian, it’s often difficult to find good tacos at restaurants, although lately, I’ve been finding good potato tacos at a bunch of different places, and for that I am grateful. I also make all sorts of vegetarian tacos at home, with all sorts of different fillings.

I love pizza and have eaten some really good pizza lately. I think I still compare all pizza to the stuff I used to eat at Shakey’s Pizza back in the late 1960’s and early ‘70’s. They still have Shakey’s Pizza restaurants in some areas, but the pizza is not the same, not by a long shot. The closest thing I have tasted to Shakey’s Pizza in modern times, is the pizza sold at the concession windows at Costco. That is really good pizza, and a bargain at $1.99 per giant slice.

So if you had to choose between pizza and tacos, which one would you choose? Do you have any favorite places (or recipes) for tacos and pizza?

YES.

But between the two: Tacos. My digestive system gets upset at pizza long before it hits its taco limit.

(lacking a gallbladder is seriously harshing my pizza eating)

There’s a local restaurant called Vallarta’s, that does $1 beef or chicken tacos (hard or soft) for $1 each on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. That ALSO happens to be the days that hubby has off work. So Taco Tuesday is definitely a thing in our house.

Pizza is touch and go in Florida. And it’s the Great Debate in our marriage. See – hubby is from the Chicago area, and I grew up in New York City. So we’ll never agree which is better – the One True Pizza or his Chicago Bread Pie.

But tacos – tacos are always good.

I just remembered something. Something I used to love (before I gave up meat). Taco bell has this wonderful thing called a Mexican Pizza. Basically it is several layers of flour tortillas, with seasoned taco meat, cheese, and enchilada sauce. I could totally make that with fake meat. I love the Mexican flavors, melded with the idea of a pizza.

I also like jalapeƱos on pizza.

There is a newish place around here called Blaze Pizza, where you can get any toppings, and combo of sauces, for $7.99. The crust is really good (thin-ish, but with a bit of chew). My favorite toppings are half red sauce, and half pesto sauce, mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, mushrooms, fresh basil, fresh garlic, and jalapeƱos. You don’t want to be kissing anyone but dogs after that lunch, but boy is it good.

I made chicken and bean enchiladas with salsa verde (and a side of arroz amarillo) for dinner tonight.

Thank the sweet, blessed baby Jesus for Mexican food.

I have two cats and I love them both.

Here is my problem. I would rather choose between which cat I wanted to keep around.

@johnpowell – We had this “would you rather” debate around my dinner table not long ago. Ian solved it in the best way possible:

Pepperoni and mozzarella tacos. What is salsa if not marinara sauce with peppers?

The thing is my love of the taco/burrito is basically so extreme since I mostly use them as a way to get sour cream into my face. When desperate I can always make a baked potato.

Pizza is pizza and about 33% of what I eat is pizza.

I would still rather lose a cat. Never had to send a pizza to the vet!

It depends on the tacos and the pizza. They can vary enormously.

I eat both regularly. Thinking of the best tacos and the best pizza, it’s tough to choose and depends on my appetite and how recently I’ve had each, but forced to choose, I would choose tacos, meaning the kind I make at home.

The tacos I make at home are a mix of beef and pork sausage with tomato sauce and cumin left to simmer for a while. Various toppings are added and wrapped in a warmed soft white flour tortilla so it’s sort of like a burrito. Also, shredded chicken tacos in soft corn tortillas. I rarely order tacos when eating out.

Pizza I haven’t made at home in a long time. I agree Costco pizza is a good thing. though there is better pizza, and it it’s noticeably worse, it can be not something I want to eat unless I’m hungry and/or there’s little alternative. I seek out small independent restaurants that make really good pizza, such as places with wood-fired ovens and good taste, Neapolitan-licenses places, or just going to Italy, which is a whole other thing. (If I get to go to Italy if I choose pizza, then pizza.)

No kidding, this is one of the toughest questions I’ve seen…

If the type of tacos, or pizzas, is unlimited?

I want to say pizza, but…...

I may have to think about this for a while.

Pizza. I had My Big Fat Greek pizza last night, which is gyro meat, fresh spinach, onions, fresh tomatoes, black olives, feta cheese and mozzarella. So good!

I love both but would probably go with pizza.
I get less of that.
