(Possible NSFW) If pain was like orgasms, how would that manifest itself in your current life?

Asked by Kardamom (33289points) October 26th, 2017 from iPhone

If pain was experienced as an orgasm(s), I’m guessing that life would be a little easier or enjoyable.

Tell me how your life would be different if your pain was experienced like an orgasm, instead of being painful.

Let’s see. I’d be overdoing any kind of lifting, reaching, bending, and otherwise straining my back. The payoff could come in a blitz of spasms that lasts for seven hours.

I’d be sleeping on the right side and putting pressure on my shoulder.

As of tomorrow, I could be hopping around on a foot that’s just undergone a little surgery.

And as of right now, I could be having an unimaginable sensation in a tooth that didn’t start to hurt until right after my six-month dental checkup last week.

Gee, thanks for that little fantasy vacation. I’ll try to remember it tomorrow when the anesthesia wears off.

Then my death would be the biggest orgasm I have ever experienced, given my lifestyle.

I’d have fewer orgasms. I am indeed lucky.

I would be, at this very moment, in my 50th hour of constant orgasm.
A back orgasm.
An orgasm that makes it near impossible to lay on either side of my body.

I’d enjoy your question.

Everyone would be a masochist.

Getting older would be better, just having orgasms for no reason.

Children would never learn to avoid danger.

Well, since I experience pain a lot more frequently than I do orgasms, I would probably be a lot more sated. Although, the way my knee is acting up right now, I don’t know if I could stand so much pleasure.

Instead of the instant gutteral realization that something we’ve just done is bad and has caused our bodies harm, we’d have to use logic to understand that even though the thing feels good, we have to stop or we’ll injure ourselves. This would mean that many people would choose instant gratification over long-term health and would injure themselves purposefully. We’d also have a lot more accidental death and permanent injury among teenagers especially. Realistically the human race would probably have gone extinct a long time ago.

Those of us with chronic illnesses would have a lot less suffering in our lives, although we’d probably still want cures due to other unpleasant symptoms like fatigue and because we don’t want long-term damage happening to our bodies and shortening our lifespans.

There actually have been cases in the real world of people having orgasms for no reason, some so frequently that they disrupt people’s lives. I guess all chronic pain patients would now be in this camp. They’d have to deal with people making obnoxious jokes like “gee I wish I had your condition, wink wink.”

We’d begin to make the connection that pleasure == something bad happening to our bodies, and might even stop enjoying pleasure due to that association. We’d find it harder to enjoy sex because we wouldn’t be sure whether we were getting pleased or getting injured.

A lot of conditions that are painful but don’t tend to cause any significant damage to the body, such as kidney stones, would no longer be problems.

Overall my own life would be a lot less difficult, but probably more confusing.

I think the average lifespan would drop to 19 years. In fact, puberty would be the leading cause of death.

Would the intensity of the orgasm correlate directly with the level of pain?

and here I am thinking of Sir Galahads rescue at the Castle Anthrax – “I think I can stand a little peril”

ragingloli's avatar

You should combine this scenario with actual orgasms being perceived as excruciating pain.

Sports would be much different from what we now have and probably be banned from television. Football players would go back to playing without pads or cups, Boxing would become just two guys writhing around on the ground. Runners would constantly push themselves trying to hit the wall.

And the Church, let us not forget them! They would be actively involved in trying to prevent violence for a change. And what could they do for punishment? You can’t crucify someone! It would mean granting them pleasure and go against the very tenets of the church doctrine.

At this moment I’d be one huge orgasm and it would probably kill me!

I would use pliers on my fingers on alternate days and on special occasions, maybe once a year, break a bone. I would try to resist standing in front of approaching locomotives.

Probably not much. I’ve been patched up and reconfigured in so many places that just about every sexual position hurts someplace. So I sort of have that very association.

If that happens then sex will lose much of its function thus will be practiced less by me as well as by most people. Orgasm will produce endorphine and I fear what would happen to my brain if I abuse pain-inducing activities (since it has become an easier alternative) to get orgasm all the time, I haven’t read the risk of too much endorphine production.

I think that this can be answered in a song, specifically This one. Well, the first verse for certain.,,,
