Does Apple computer still have this feature?

Asked by Aster (20023points) November 1st, 2017

I use this Apple computer that has a slot on the side to slide in DVDs and I adore it. Did they stop making them with this? It’s a big desktop , next to the largest.

Pretty much, optical drives are close to being obsolete anyway.

@Aster I bought a new Imac desktop in 2015. I had to buy a separate DVD player. Mine is a 21½ inch 4 K. I think the separate DVD player was about $79.

Apple makes a separate usb disk player.

Where do you put a separate disc player? Mine is built in. I can’t understand why they discontinued it. One reason I got a reclining desk chair. lol

I’s rather small can sit right beside the computer, as it plugs into a usb port.

If you just want to kick back in your chair and watch a DVD I would suggest getting a cheap DVD drive (non apple USB ones work fine and are 20 bucks) and just rip your DVDs with MakeMKV and store them on your hard drive. I just got another 8TB hard drive from Best Buy that was 180 bucks. That will store 1300 DVDs. Then you don’t have to fumble with cases and searching for something in a stack of cases. The quality will be the exact same.

And if you want to get fancy Plex will even organize it all and give you a nice interface to view them.
