Does anyone here have experience with PML (Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy)?

I have Googled it, I have the basics, but I wonder if anyone has personal experience, perhaps with a friend or loved one. If you’re willing to share, I’d love any insight you might have.
I’ve just received news of an old, dear friend who is afflicted.
