Can local anaesthetic make you puffy?

Asked by tan253 (2948points) December 20th, 2017

Hi all,
I went to the Dr today about an infected cuticle, she ended up giving me local anaesthetic in my thumb and then she cut it open to drain the infection.
That was 6 hours ago and when she initially did it I noticed my thumb ballooned and she said that was the fluid from the anaesthetic, I’ve just changed my plaster and whilst most of the fluid or puffiness has gone down there is still one part of my thumb that is puffy – can this still be from the anaesthetic?
Can it take a while to leave the body or dissipate or whatever it does?
Does anyone know or has anyone had this experience?
She said it was Paronychia so needed draining so it wouldn’t get worse, there was no pus or anything when she drained it so I’m not sure it was the best thing to get done, to be honest!

This is the internet. People are going to Google your problem and tell you that you have cancer. If it isn’t better in 12 hours call your doctor and ask. I doubt your doctor is out to get you.

Did she tell you to soak your thumb in warm soapy water? ?

No she said to leave it – I’ve looked at it today and the swelling has gone down a minimal amount, this kind of thing just sets my anxiety on fire. So not only did I get a minor surgery done on an infection that I don’t really think was infected, now the area she put the needle in is still swollen, the needle did move around a lot in my skin, she dropped it and then picked it up again whilst it was in my thumb so I’m assuming maybe it’s a bruise?
