How long does it take for Facebook to restore an account after it has been locked?

Asked by jonsblond (43646points) January 1st, 2018

I created a new account several months ago for the safety of my transgender child. I needed an account that did not have old pictures of him. I kept my original account to look at the 9 years of memories I have stored. Some of these memories include friends and family that have passed away.

I have moved my family members and most friends over to this new account. I was active on my new account last night but logged out to look at my old account a couple times. I tried to log back in to the new account but there was a message that stated that I needed to send them a photo of myself to prove my identity. I did this, then was told I needed to wait for the photo to be verified.

I’m still logged out. I’m pissed. I depend on Facebook to keep in touch with a few people. My birthday is also in 3 days and Facebook is how many of my loved ones send wishes.

How long does this process take? (Lesson learned. Don’t rely on Facebook to keep in touch with others and store photos. grrr)

Maybe it’s just slow because of New Years Day? I can’t answer your Q better than that (sorry) but if it’s not back up by tomorrow, I’d pursue it further.
Not helpful, but Happy New Year, @Aethelwine, to you and yours!

Thank you! It makes it more frustrating that it happened on a holiday. I’m sure that is slowing things down.

I’ve been waiting for legit 2 months. Contact them every week-no response

@SergeantQueen How upsetting. I’m really regretting being so dependent on Facebook.

I never heard of having to send photo for verification. In which scenarios they ask for it?

After doing some research I’ve found out that this has happened to many
people. This article explains their reasoning. http://bgr.com/2017/11/29/facebook-face-id-security-update/

I think what happened is I uploaded a new profile picture of myself last night and their facial recognition caught it. It detected my face from my original account. My previous profile picture on my new account was a drawing my son drew of me. Last night was the first time I used a photo of myself on my new account. I was locked out maybe 20 minutes after I changed my profile pic.

Ohk.. Good lesson for others not to upload profile pic to new account..!!

My account was locked when i used a different device and typed in the wrong password a few times. I got it unlocked almost instantly by identifying pictures of people on my friends list. A picture would come up and i was given a multiple choice question. I was allowed to skip a certain number maybe 2 or 3 but I had to get the others right – and do it quickly.
