Why do people just laugh at sexual harassment?

I told my female friends about how my dad comments on my breasts when my mom isn’t around, and how it makes me feel uncomfortable, and their initial reaction was to crack up. Which made me feel AWFUL! I just ignored them and went home crying.

Even I do this. I laugh when someone catcalls me or looks at me like they want to “eat” me. Its wrong, but the reaction is laughter or smiling. Why is this?
