Can you share some words of wisdom please?

Asked by imrainmaker (8380points) January 24th, 2018

Here’s one I read recently – “Let your dreams outgrow the shoes of your expectations”. Isn’t that nice? I always wonder how they come up with such jewels.

Well this is going to be “a lot of” words.

I have been studying astrology for some time now. Everyone with basic knowledge of astrology knows that in a birth chart there are certain planet placements that are advantageous to your personality and certain placements that aren’t. But this is something that is emphasized many times by experienced astrologers: “It’s not what kind of energy you have that matters, it’s what you do with your energy”.

What does it mean? A birth chart is basically a map of your body showing what you are good at and bad at, how smooth or rough your life will be. You are supposed to carry it with you from birth to the rest of your life. But this saying means you aren’t destined to have a bad life if you have a bad chart. You have free will to turn bad placements to your advantage. Indeed, many famous people have birth charts full of bad placements. Some of them even rose to greatness because of the bad placements.

There are two lessons I learned from this. First, you had a shitty upbringing or past, you don’t get to have luck that will do good for your future. But it doesn’t mean that you are destined to have a shitty life. You have the power to create your own beautiful future. And second, what you think is bad may not be bad after all. In fact, many bad things in life are actually gifts in disguise, you just have to be open-minded to see them.

I like your thinking but I’m not sure if many people here believe in Astrology or not.

@imrainmaker I know. That’s why I don’t discuss astrology here. Beside I’m not talking about astrology. I just use astrology to lead to a lesson in life.

Call me anything, but astrology has taught me to see human as a complex creature with many shades of grey and embrace differences.

Along similar lines, my personal take on words of wisdom:
The secret to the meaning of life is that there is no secret to the meaning of life.

More poetically:
This world in itself is not reasonable, that is all that can be said. But what is absurd is the confrontation of this irrational and the wild longing for clarity whose call echoes in the human heart.

“Pick yourself up by your bootstraps”.
A man told me that after I flunked second grade. I thought about it for a long time and realized that I wasn’t going to get help from anyone. I had to do the work myself. Managed to graduate from college with a BA.

I’d like to share one more.

“One person can make a difference, and everyone should try.”

One teacher can make a difference in the life of a child. One instructor can make a difference in the life of a college student. One stranger can make a difference in the life of anyone. Strive to be that one person.

I experienced the worst year of my life last year. My life changed for the better thanks to a few acquaintances from here and on Facebook. I’m striving to make a difference now.

If you want something you’ve never had, you’ll probably have to do things that you’ve never done. Various versions of that.

I read a book a few weeks ago that’s one of the best that I’ve read in the past 40 years… and I read a lot. In fact, it was so good that I’m reading it again, just weeks later, to see if there’s anything that I missed the first time around. It’s Mistakes Were Made (the link is to the audiobook version, but that’s the book). This book is blowing my mind; it explains a lot of things that you probably already “know”, but the mental mechanisms and justifications are highly enlightening.

I’m sure that no one on this site ever has to self-justify, or suffers from confirmation bias, cognitive dissonance, etc. But for all of those other fools you run into every day, y’know, it’ll help you deal with them better.~

To “assume” is to make an ass out of you and me. “Close” only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, God is all powerful. Draw your own conclusions.

I would say just to be grateful for everything you have in life. The more appreciative you are, the more good things come your way. Also, be happy with who you are. Don’t compare yourself to others – be yourself. You are a special and unique soul. Everyone is on their own journey and your life path is unique to you alone. Learn every day. Be kind always.
Never judge anyone for you never know what they have been through and suffered. What matters is the good deeds we do in this world. That’s all we really have that lasts forever. x
