Am I eating too unhealthy?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12874points) January 31st, 2018

So today I decided to track what I eat. Here’s what I got so far (I’m not posting what I ate specifically, just the numbers

My grams of sugar was 126g when my daily limit is 40

Grams of saturated fat was 39 when the daily limit is 18

and mg of sodium was 3906 when my daily limit is 2300

My calorie limit was 1600 and I had 2647 calories.
I am wondering if, based on above, I am at risk for gaining way to much weight, etc. If it’ll help to post what I ate I can do that.

Or is it possible that your daily limits are too low. Who determined them and are you gaining weight?

Not sure about gaining weight but it’s the USDA’s online foodtracker. I typed age, height, current weight and I assume it came up with it.

When I really want to lose weight or get a handle on how much I am eating, I write down everything I eat and the calories consumed. (I don’t track fats, protein, etc.) To lose weight, I need to eat less than about 1100 calories a day; about 1500 to maintain but I am older than you. I would imagine you would be somewhere in the 1700 – 2000 calories per day because you are not very tall. I would get a really good handle on what you are eating and then see how you can cut back without feeling super deprived. Try not to just mindlessly eat and maybe up your exercise game which will help you maintain and also reduce stress by releasing endorphins and dopamine.

Don’t consciously try to make big changes but if you overindulge one day, make up for it the following day or couple of days. And maybe make small changes like adding one or two more fruit or veggie servings a day.

You said you have belly fat. You can try to spot reduce but it is hard. I’ve had a bit of a pot belly even when I weighed 115 pounds years ago; now I am chubbier and it is bigger but I am not fat overall.

I would look at your sugar intake. 126g of sugar is almost 500 calories. Maybe you could replace the sugary items with an apple?
