Is it wrong to accept money from your preacher?

Asked by MooCows (3216points) February 10th, 2018

My preacher wanted me to teach the youth at our small church. My husband told me I didn’t have the time to do it and even getting money for gas to drive to the church for different programs would be a problem. This is all true but I felt led to do it and I am good at it. My preacher sneaks me $100 a week out of his pocket and the extra money has really helped out. Do you think that is wrong to take it? My husband thinks it is wrong because the church thinks they are getting all my work for free but I couldn’t do it if I wasn’t given the money and I do enjoy doing it and the teens love me. They do not put Sunday school teachers on the pay roll it is volunteer. Do you think taking the money is wrong?

Nope! Take all the money

Doesn’t seem right to pay you and no one else.

It might be wrong of him to give it but I don’t think it’s wrong of you to take it. He must feel it’s worth it to the church.

Most churches have a discretionary fund where they can use it to help out their parishioners. Perhaps he is using this to pay you and not his own money.

@chyna That’s a good point!

You should take the money. You are helping parishioners as well as yourself.
You can relax. It is doubtful the minister is taking the money out of his own pocket.

Your hubs is thinking about himself, and his needs, not yours. Take the money and go. It will do you good to get out of the house, and as your preacher said, it will help the church. You could ask him, but I bet the money comes out of the mercy fund or petty cash.

Don’t take money from the preacher. Just don’t.
