What is the agency that oversees CPAs?

I know that doctors and lawyers, even contractors, have their own licensing boards, but what about CPAs? Are they licensed? By which agency?

In the US each state has its own regulations. I looked up the details for my state, and two agencies are in involved.

The Illinois Board of Examiners administers the CPA exam.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation licenses CPAs, and most other professions.
