When you go to the grocery store do you buy enough for the day, the week, the month or some other time period?

Asked by rojo (24179points) April 10th, 2018

As asked.

I usually go once a week and we buy enough for the following week. I wondered if other folks in other countries (or states or cities) do it differently.

I buy fresh meat every three or less days. Everything else as I need to. Usually twice a week.

About 3–4 days. However, I do have some back up on pantry items and frozen food that might be around for weeks.

I try to shop for the week. Inevitably something happens and I have to go a second time. Either I forgot something on the first trip, or one of us gets inspired by a recipe and we need some of the ingredients.

We were much better and more consistent about it when the kids were living with us, though they often spend as much time here as when they were growing up. So one of us is picking up provisions damned near every day, though a major wrench was thrown into my routine when the neighborhood Safeway went from a 24 hour schedule to closing at 11pm.

Yes, the month for canned goods and fresh veggies and fruit for the week.

I usually go with my mom to WinCo about once a month since dry goods and frozen stuff is so much cheaper there.

But Safeway is about a 5 minute walk so I do frequent trips and just get what can fit in my backpack. Usually a few times a week.

There is a 24 hour Tesco five minutes from my door and I go there every second day. If they have a special offer on I sometimes buy in bulk.

How much money do I have and how many days until I get paid again??
I usually try to get enough supplies for 1 to 2 weeks but have to go back off and on for milk, bread, lettuce, tomato, ... minor stuff that depends on just what I’m making at that moment and what I forgot to get on the big purchase.

I shop more based on what places have what for sale, supplemented by shopping for immediate needs.

I have a farmer’s market I go to weekly, a store I go to weekly, and then I make other trips to other stores as needed, often just for 1–2 days’ things, and a store I go to less than once per month.

Week. That is what fits into the rucksack.

I keep my kitchen stocked with a lot pantry items and a freezer full of meats and veggies. I go to the market when I need dairy items and produce. I don’t have to go more than every 10 days or so. I don’t keep milk anymore other than frozen into ice cubes to use for cooking. When whatever I’m low on is on special I usually go and stock back up. The markets here have great meat sales. We have a wholesale food distributor here with a little store where they sell anything that was in a broken case for almost nothing. Man, the deals you can find there are really surprising sometimes.
