What fun things (grand or more mundane) have you done lately?

Asked by Kardamom (33291points) April 15th, 2018 from iPhone

Fun is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe you just got back from Disneyland, or maybe you’ve been working on a quilting project, or went fishing in your local lake.

What have you done for fun lately? Do you plan fun into your regular schedule?

I’ve done a few fun things recently. I finally got to go to Yosemite in the wintertime, after years of wanting to take that trip.

I also went to a local farmers market and bought some blood oranges, and heirloom tomatoes, and ate some delicious African food at one of the food booths.

I also went to an old fashioned ice cream stand in our town, that has been there since the 40’s, with some younger co-workers who had never been there before.

And right now, I’m reading a “Sherlock Holmes book, by a modern author. Apparently the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle authorizes certain authors to continue the SH series.

So a little fun here, and a lot of fun there : )

Last night I went to. An “immersion theater”perforce Chicago. The playbook place in a set built like a small hoe, with vying room, dining rooom, kitchen, bathroom, and front and side porches.

The audience entered the set, and mingled amongst the actors. It was “a birthday party”set. 1961, and dialogue took place in different rooms, and sometimes simultaneously.

It was a great drama, and put us right into the middle of it. I highly recommend it. It is called “Southern Gothic.”

It is at Windy City Playhouse on Irving Park in Chicago

@zenvelo Were you also visiting friends out in Chicago, or were you just there for the play? Sounds wonderful. I hope you got to eat some Chicago yummies, deep dish pizza and whatever else Chicago is known for.

@Kardamom We were there for just one night, saw some friends and had dinner at Community Tavern on N Milwaukee, a “top ten new restaurant” in 2015, an intriguing mix of American and Asian fusion food. I am on a plane home to California now.

—Deep dish tomato sauce pie is not pizza. Any pizza that requires an adjective is not really pizza.—

My main forms of fun these days are going birdwatching, mucking around in my aquarium, and video games. The usual. The birdwatching piece is good right now because spring is the best time of year for birds.

I went hiking at Red River Gorge in Kentucky and had some spectacular views.

Also, I just finished my first commission, a dog portrait in graphite.

Watched military madness on YouTube. Long lost ending that I never saw.

Yesterday is was cold and rainy and really windy. We went to the Garfield Park Conservatory for the warmth. I discovered years ago that a trip their is like a tropical vacation on a winter day.

It’s a huge greenhouse from 1907 . When you first enter, you’re in the Palm House, with trees touching the ceiling. It’s warm and humid and your winter sniffles clear up in moments.

Then there’s the fern room, with koi and turtles swimming around the lagoon.

Then the cactus room, which is cooler and of course dry. My favorite plant of the day was this century plant.. It would make a good Audrey Jr. for a desert production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Oddly as I was writing this, in a story on the radio a woman said, “it was one of those icy gray February mornings when Wolfgang and I visit the conservatory at the botanical garden. Inside it’s lush, and warm and green…”

Yesterday my husband and I went to Universal in Orlando. It was entertaining, and the weather was good. I had fun.

A week ago Saturday I went to a dance at the Spanish American club and the music was great, I had fun.

I usually have fun at Zumba, I go 3–4 times a week.

Oh, back in April 6 I went to the Tartan Day celebration here. I like seeing the people play the bagpipes, and some of the other performances.

I have fun most days. Where I live people have “fun every day”. It’s an expression here.

In a couple of days I’ll go with friends to see a funny DJ and dance. In a couple of weeks I’m planning on going with friends to Disney Springs in the evening.

This past Friday I heard a lecture on the Dakota pipeline. Very interesting.

My big thing is playing board games with my younger grandchildren. They like playing Monopoly Jr. and Battleship with me, sometimes we just break out a deck of cards. They grow up so damn fast I want to enjoy their company while I can. My two eldest are young adults now, working and attending college, and have lives of their own. : (
