Have you ever done one of those weekly meal prep plans?

One of my relatives posted a wonderful photo of the food she prepped yesterday, that will be her meals (breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner) for 5 days. She works full time, and is preparing to run in a half marathon. So she’s a busy woman, but she wants to eat healthy, not be in such a rush in the morning, and avoid the urge to go to the drive-thru when things get crazy.

I think she looked at a bunch of plans on Pinterest or something like that, and may have combined several of them. She is not a vegetarian, but her meals are all very healthy, well balanced, and delicious looking. Because she’s a runner, she needed a bit more protein than maybe your average person would need. But she had chicken breast, lean roast beef, cheese, yogurt, and lots of fruits, veggies, and rice, and salad.

She got these nice tupperware containers that have either 2 or 3 dividers, depending upon what she is packing for each day. Then there is the addition of a yogurt, or a fruit cup, or a cheese stick, and a drink (100% juice, yogurt drink, water, or un-sweetened ice tea). She packs what she needs into a cooler on her way out the door in the morning.

She did all the prep work yesterday, and put all of the food into the containers. Before she put everything into the fridge she took a picture of the whole shebang and it was pretty impressive.

She said you have to do a whole day of prep, and it would take longer or less time depending on what you were planning to eat, but it was worth it to free up all that time during the week.

Have you ever tried one of these weekly food prep projects and how did it turn out?

No, I haven’t. The closest would be when I planned meals for a month for my daycare. I had to send the menus in the SRS.

I only do it insofar as I generally have an idea of what things I will be packing in my lunch for the week, so I will make a salad or 2, or 3. And I will have the other things on hand. I don’t pack elaborate meals for lunch at work, so it’s pretty easy for me to put together my lunch, which I do the night before, so that saves time.
