Am I putting myself at an advantage, or disadvantage, by posting my "for sale" items in this format, rather than the way most people sell their stuff on Facebook?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46811points) April 29th, 2018

Here is my ad.
Here is a comparison to the way other people sell their stuff.

Here is the ad for the land we sold. In post I included a link to a public Photobucket album that had more pictures.

So, does it make me stand out, which is what I’m after?

Your photobucket is awkward and difficult to see you are selling something. It took me longer than a buyer is willing to take to find the right arrow at the bottom of the page.

And who looks for stuff on photobucket? Advertise on Craigslist, you can post a new copy everyday to float to the top of searches. And, you can post the ad over multiple locations (Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka, Lawrence).

What? In the body of the post I included This album. I post these on the Market place and wherever else on Facebook. I don’t post them in Photobucket. I am not sure what you are going on about

I just followed your links! That is what I am going on about.

FB is not a demonstrated effective place to sell things, because unlike craigslist, it is not easily searchable. Not many people go there to shop for a specific item (like a truck) but more like they are going to a garage sale.

You don’t understand my question. The photobucket links were just to show you what my ads look like compared to other people’s ads. I’ve only linked to my photobucket when I sold the land, which I did sell, BTW for my asking price, when someone on one of those “Survivor” pages found it.
I have sold a ton of things on FB, usually with in a day.
Also, when you start looking for something, and start liking certain things (I’m in the market for a Queen size bed frame) it starts sending those things to your facebook feed.

This question has entirely nothing to do with photobucket.

@zenvelo do you even “do” Facebook?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Let’s try this again. Most of the time people put a picture of their item, with the description at the top.

I create “flyer” type ads in Word and post that as my picture. I think it’s much more interesting and eye catching.

I just remembered who you are. I’ll try to tag you on it all.

^^^Yes, I saw it, and I saw it yesterday. I still don’t find it an effective way to advertise. What do you have against craigslist?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Nothing. I just like Facebook better. I have not failed to sell anything that I’ve posted for sale, and very quickly, too. Getting ready to throw a couple of office chairs up for sale.
And some of the sites are searchable. The Marketplace has things broken down by “Automobile”, “Appliances” etc.
I got a potential buyer of the truck in less than 15 minutes.
The land took about 6 weeks.

I sold a 1962 VW Beetle in 2 weeks.

I also sold two horses in less than a week for the same friend I’m selling the truck for.

Is your friend impaired in some way that she can’t sell her own stuff?

What am I missing? You tell us that “I have not failed to sell anything that I’ve posted for sale, and very quickly, too.” That’s good, right? So are you asking if you should change an already successful strategy?

When I originally saw this, I thought it looked very effective.

@chyna she doesnt do the internet.I don’t mind. Her husband died recently so I’m helping as much as I can even though I don’t care much for her.

Did someone else mention your ad says track instead of truck?

I personally would like bigger photos and fewer or smaller words, but probably it doesn’t matter much.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I didn’t write it. I wrote it exactly the way she told me to. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a misspelling.

I’ll keep bigger pics and smaller words in mind next time. Thanks.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I just checked….it’s called a Ford Sports Trac. So she misspelled Trac, not truck.

Ah. Lol. So, I was wrong, but it’s still wrong.

Dutchess_III's avatar

But it’s not my wrong.
