Have you tried something really delicious, at a restaurant, recently?

Asked by Kardamom (33284points) May 17th, 2018 from iPhone

There is a new Indian restaurant that opened up near my house about 6 months ago. I’ve been there twice, and I plan to go again soon.

They have lunch specials that come with one curry, lentil soup, Basmati rice, and naan bread. My mom and I split, a total of 4 lunch special curries. What a treat! I love Indian food and am always excited to try new versions of old favorites.

What new things have you tried recently, that tickled your taste buds?

I save money to go to a fine dining restaraunt two or three times a year, and I recently had a mushroom ravioli dish that was outstanding

We have a new restaurant that is Indian fusion and they have the best homemade curry I’ve ever had. Another place for mothers day had little flavored foam desserts that were light, airy and very tasty in little clear square containers, loved it, much better than heavy cake,etc..

I rarely get dessert at a restaurant, but I was at the chocolate emporium at Universal, so my husband and I split one lunch so we would have room for dessert.

We ordered a bread pudding and it was fantastic. I’d say in the top three desserts I’ve ever had. The bread putting had melted chocolate chunks, seemed like it was semi-sweet chocolate, throughout, and was served warm. On the side was vanilla ice cream, and sprinkled around the plate was a fine crumble of chocolate and cinnamon sugar. The whole combination was amazing.

There’s a Japanese restaurant a block from my house where I always take visitors for lunch. It’s a peculiar fact that most of the Japanese and sushi restaurants here are owned and staffed by Chinese folks. Anyway, our restaurant serves this bento box lunch which comes with miso soup, shrimp & vegetable tempura, 4California rolls, rice and an entree of your choice such as terriyaki or katsu. This was a fabulous deal for years at $7 but the price jumped to 9 bucks a year back, and $10 last month. It’s still a deal as far as I’m concerned, and here’s why we always insist on taking visitors. It’s to see the looks on their faces after the waitress asks for our choices as entrees in the bento box lunch. The wife and I reply in unison “lamb chops”, and our guests as well as new waitresses get this look of consternation on their faces, because there is not a single reference to a lamb chop written anywhere on anything in the place. The waitresses who know the drill just grin as we try to convince our guests (usually reluctant) to try the lamb chops.
Occasionally we will get a waitress who insists there are no lamb chops, to which we reply “Ask Jimmy” If our guests decide to pass on the lamb chops, we order some as an appetizer to be certain they sample them (and not ours). They’re REALLY good, and our guests always leave converted.

I just returned form a week’s vacation in Portland, OR. There are vegan restaurants everywhere, and even the mainstream places offer vegan choices.

I was in heaven. Every meal I had was delicious; it really isn’t possible for me to say which one was best. This is such a contrast from where I live, and I’m already missing it.

One fun surprise – I found a restaurant called DC Veg, was curious, and asked about the name. The owners are from nearby me but moved all the way to Portland to open a vegan place. I asked them if they would please come back and bring their restaurant with them.

Apparently it’s a foodie paradise. What is your wife’s plans for Portland?

Her brother & his family are there & they spoil her rotten. She’s only gone through Monday, but she’ll fly up there at the drop of a hat—any excuse will do.

Interesting. It’s been Indian food that’s “wowed” me lately too. There aren’t many Indian places around here, but the one I went to last was amazing, one of the best restaurants I’d been to in a while (especially after going to a fairly mediocre one the day before).

@Demosthenes Indian meals are really fun to make at home. It’s a matter of collecting the herbs and spices over time. I started out simply and add new ones as they crop up in recipes.
