Do you know the title of an animation film (details inside)?

Asked by luigirovatti (2826points) May 18th, 2018

In this French color movie (a bit old), a cyclist is kidnapped by a criminal organization and is saved by his gramma. Oh, and she has a dog, travel on a foreign state (I believe America) and works with 3 elderly women who play instruments (not REAL instruments, they’re poor). Oh, and it’s almost completely silent, save a few words at the end.

Well, that was quick.

I’m going to add another question about the Triplets.

There is a short (I think) after the credits that’s stuck in my head since I first saw the movie when it was new.

I can’t Google up any video or even a mention of it. It was black & white, and a little Django-like guy is dancing and playing guitar. I remember the animation style was a bit different from the film, more 3D-ish.

Anybody remember that? Or better yet, know where I can see it?

I am working on getting you the short. No guarantee of success but I am trying.

Thanks, I put a hold on the Triplets DVD at the library. It was just checked out so it will be a bit before I see if it includes the short.

The copy I grabbed does have a short at the end but is only about ten seconds. And it is a guy staring at his watch and then this.

Downloading the ISO of the DVD now. Maybe that has it.

That image looks different. I’m wondering if the short in my imagination was actually included with another film, but it melds in memory with Triplets because of the Django jazz.

Also the animation I am thinking of is NOT this Django character in Triplets.

@Call_Me_Jay It was the beginning of the film and was supposed to show the Triplets playing in their younger days. It was a pastiche of an older animation style. If you get the DVD, you’ll see it.

@janbb I remember just one character in the short, playing guitar and dancing around a living room, and it being unconnected from the rest of the film (except for the music).

I think the opening you describe is here on Youtube.

@Call_Me_Jay Aha. I didn’t see it in a theater so I don’t think I saw that. Or I don’t remember it.

Downloading VOBs from the DVD.

It will be a bit but I will see if any match what you remember.

Either of those ring a bell?

Success looking for the short sequence I remember!!!! Finally got the Belleville DVD from the library this week.

It’s the “Belleville Rendez-vous Music Video” in the Special Features section of the DVD.

The version in my memory is pretty far off, except I remember the Persian rug, paneled room and it looked like an old sepia-tone photo. It’s live action rather than animated.

Really neat. The special effects looks like what Georges Melies was doing in 120 years ago, but from the video linked below I see they used computer video compositing.

I can’t find the whole thing thing online but here’s a“making of” clip that gives you a glimpse: Belleville Rendez-vous – making-of du clip
