How do you make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

Asked by chyna (51306points) June 30th, 2018

Peanut butter on one slice and jelly on the other?
Peanut butter then jelly on the same slice?
Jelly then peanut butter on the same slice?

I put the peanut butter on one slice, then jelly and then kind of stir it around to mix it together.

Please don’t answer if you don’t make them with the answer: I don’t make them. I’ll flag you.

I toast the bread, then I put peanut butter on one half. Eat that. Then put jelly on the other half, then eat that. Icky together, yummy in sequence.

PB then jelly on top, PB and honey I mix together. YUM

The PB on one slice, and the jam or honey on the other. If it’s honey, I like to give it time to soak in the bread.

I put the peanut butter and the jelly on separate slices, and I always put the jelly on first so I can wipe off the knife on the other slice of bread and have a relatively clean knife for the peanut butter. This keeps peanut butter out of the jelly jar and jelly out of the peanut butter jar.

PB on one side, jam or jelly on the other.
Serve up jelly with a spoon, not a knife.

I scoop the peanut butter from the jar with a knife and spread it evenly on one piece of bread. I then lick the knife clean to reduce waste. The knife goes in the sink for cleaning.
I then scoop the jelly with a spoon and spread it evenly on the opposite piece of bread. The spoon is then licked clean and placed in the sink.
I then place the peanut butter side on top of the jelly and put the sandwich on a plate, ready for eating..
I do not cut it. (That’s for wimps.)

This got me thinking of peanut butter, so….
I just scooped a spoonful out of the jar and ate it. Thanks!

I am sure that @LuckyGuy ‘s PB and J’s are meticulously made and precisely measured!

I put PB on one slice of whole wheat and Smucker’s Fruit Only raspberry on top of it. (After licking the knife clean of PB, I then use it for the jam. (My house, my rules!)

Would you believe that I have never, ever made one, not even as a kid or, later, raising two kids?

That’s the sort of thing I hope makes it into my obituary.

(This isn’t “I don’t make them,” though, technically.)

If I made them, I would put one spread on each slice and then smoosh them together. Jelly on the bottom slice, peanut butter on the one that’s to be turned over, because it’s less likely to fall off.

I freeze my bread and use by the slice. I spread peanut butter on one slice which does not get torn or smashed down because it’s frozen. Jelly, or jam goes on the other slice.Put in sandwich bag in fridge and when thawed it’s soft and fresh. Yum.

I put a dollop of peanut butter in a bowl then add some jelly stirring until incorporated into the peanut butter. I eyeball the amount of jelly added to determine whether to use as is or add more jelly. I often add more jelly blending until once again fully incorporated. Then I eyeball again. I’ve done this so many times that I’m usually satisfied that I have the perfect balance of jelly at this point!!! Now, I grab my bread & slather both pieces with my concoction & curse myself for using so much that it’s squishing out the sides of my bread!!!

Damn you @chyna now I’ve got to go make myself a PB&J sammy!!!

I don’t think I’ve ever made one. I stopped eating them around age 10, but my mom would always make them by spreading peanut butter on one slice, jelly on the other, and cutting it diagonally. I do still enjoy almond butter on toast, but I’ve lost my palate for PB&J.

Aster's avatar

I do what @LuckyGuy does except I cut it in half diagonally..
. On whole wheat, 7 grain bread because it’s always fresh at our store.

Was about to say “we have staff for that” but if that crappy thing got served to me then someone’s getting fired.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, PB on one slice, jelly on the other. I would think it would get a bit messy doing it any other way.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@LadyMarissa…do you give the bowl to @LuckyGuy to lick clean before you put it in the sink?

LadyMarissa's avatar

@Dutchess_III Of course I do…I’m NOT selfish!!! Only problem is that I don’t leave much in the bowl because the bread is thickly covered & oozing when I bite into it. Best part is the PB doesn’t stick to the roof of my mouth!!!

Raise your hand if you fixed yourself a PB&J yesterday… * hand raised *

We have missed the most important questions!
1) What kind of “jelly” do you use? I always use strawberry jam, but sometimes honey.
2) Is the peanut butter crunchy or smooth? Ours is smooooth.

Actually, I made mine just after responding here when I cursed @chyna!!!

I switch the jelly according to my mood. Mixed Fruit is my all time favorite. Apple, Strawberry, Peach are my go to when in the mood. My least favorite is Grape but I will go there every so often but don’t want it all the time.

Fortunately for me @LuckyGuy isn’t picky about which he prefers!!! ;)
